The recent bad bout of snow has put extra pressure on CHVFB's resources, partly because of the extra number of road traffic collisions calling for the Brigade's attendance and partly because the snow conditions have caused problems for normal two wheel drive appliances trying to reach collision scenes. As a result, the Brigade's workshop staff have equipped two 3181 four wheel drive vehicles as road traffic collision units. Usually, the 3181 is used as a GP (general purpose) unit, for example, as a towing unit, for transferring crew or equipment between stations or as a forward command vehicle, so this is a new direction for these vehicles.
The first photos show the two versions the workshops have produced, starting with a front view, the only obvious change here being the use of the lower profile blue light unit introduced with the new ambulance and emergency doctor car. The second pic shows the rear view of the original design with two floodlights fitted to the roof, while the third and fourth photos show the Mark 2 version incorporating the lighting mast from the 3178 trailer unit, one with the unit lowered for travelling and the other with the mast raised for use.
