Upgraded old style DS turntable ladder fire engine
« on: January 03, 2010, 19:45:51 »
In an earlier thread I showed how the hose reel from the new 4825 fire accessories set would fit the little old fashioned turntable ladder fire engine re-issued some years ago via DS.  I said I had other plans for customising it and here they are, bringing together the use of the 4825 hose reel and other changes.

First, a side view showing how it now carries a crew of six instead of four.

A system of handholds was required for the extra crew riding on the rear mudguard and I used a square Plastruct tube with a smaller cross section square rod slotted through it.  I used square section because of the two circular tubes I had one was two large for the klicky hands to fit it and the other was too small for them to grip it.  The square rod, although a bit smaller than the hand does allow the klicky to grip it because of the square edges.

Extra equipment is carried attached to the ladder in the form of the new, large fire axe and a ceiling hook.  Two storage trays are carried on the bodywork behind the cab, one carrying hoses and the other, lower one, carrying hose connectors and branches.  The two trays are held together with the double clip connector from the western forts.

The standpipe and hydrant key from the 4823 accessories set are carried at the rear in the clips provided on the bodywork and the hose reel is simply hooked over the towing hook.  You can see on the rear mudguard some chequer plate which is from the airport fuel tanker stickers.

Finally, a shot of one of the crew fitted with a belt taken from the new firefighters and carrying the new, small fire axe, plus a rear view of the whole set up and a view of it turning out to a fire.

Hope you like this little custom and thanks for taking the time to look.

Thanks, BW.  They are changes I've had in mind literally for some years.  Originally, I tried to fit the hose reel carrier from the 3178 trailer on the rear of the chassis, but didn't like it but the 4825 version is just the job.

Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!
