TRU B&M raising their PM prices recently
« on: December 23, 2009, 07:11:58 »
Just noticed over the past couple of weeks that the local TRU has been raising PM prices by 10-30%  >:(

eg, 4244 Egyptian Chariot ($18) is $25(!!) iirc, Camper van went from $40 to $44, some remaining circus items went up 10% or so.

Main reason I can come up with is so they can mark it 'down' in Janurary  ::)

added - then again, TRU has always priced quite a few PM items above list price (eg, take-along boxes, Duo-packs, singles).

It is a bad practice, but they do it especially when they are offering up to 30% or more on in stock items! People think it's a great deal, but when you start comparing look out  :hmm:!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Hi Core  :elf:

TRU yes has always been known to have higher prices like you say. I have come to expect to pay a $1 or 2 more when buying there. This year though the prices were more in line with Playmobil.com (on most items). I think they just raised their prices last night. The special edition sea plane they had was always $29.99 and a great deal if you compare it to the police version that sells for $39.99. The plane now is $36.99, but today there is also a $10 off coupon so it drops to $26.99 , S/H is the only issue now.

Even the clearance circus tent is up $5  8} Do you raise clearance prices  :hmm:

Not all the prices have jumped. The Nautical Expedition Theme is still the same a PM

Its is too bad they jumped up the prices. I was hoping I was going to be able to continue using them as a 2nd source for Playmobil.

4248 Robber with Horse TRU $7.99 - PM $7.99
4244 Egyptian Chariot    TRU $24.99 - PM $17.99
4242 Sphinx with Mummy TRU $34.99 - PM $29.99
4246 Tomb with Treasure TRU $46.99 - PM $39.99
4240 Pyramid TRU $114.99 - PM $104.99

If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

They may be aware that with other B&M Playmobil options limited or even more expensive, they have plenty of scope to raise prices. It's too late to order from Playmobil's website if you want that toy in your Christmas stocking this year.

Target's range is so thin as to be laughable, and they appear to have abandoned PM for this Christmas. Wal*Mart has nothing, but I know they have stocked Playmobil occasionally. Fred Meyer has a very thin range, worth a chuckle, or a wry grin. Elephant's Trunk is very overpriced, no doubt having to pay high rent on prime locations. Eugene Toy and Hobby is moderately overpriced on most sets.

But... if you need something NOW and not in 10+ days time, and you don't want to spend $150 at once to get free shipping, what other options do you have?

TRU also have the advantage that they carry sets not even available from Playmobil themselves.

At least locally the Learning Palace still has 15% off and their prices are usually MSRP so 15% off is not toooo bad considering the depth of their stock.  :snowman:

Hi  :elf:

Looking again at the prices it seems not all the prices have jumped at TRU. The Construction, Wedding, Animal Clinic, Rescue & more themes are still MSRP. Maybe they just raised the prices on the hottest items  ??? So if they run a sale it is still a good place to stock up especially how they were doing $20 off + free shipping

Luckily our B&M shops here in town are MSRP.

To me TRU has never been a recommandable source of reasonable prices let alone cheap, why I prefer to support the local toy stores.
Cheers

I could only wish (MSRP in local toy store)  :(  :(

The only local B&M Toy Store bulked up on their Playmobil selection this year, including DS items - yeah!  The initial batch (Summer) were all at MSRP, over the next few shipment prices progressively went up, 10%, then 20%, and the latest 30% and more  >:(

eg,

3268 King's Castle $185MSRP at the store is $250
4311 Airport Terminal is $75
4242 Sphinx is $35
3136 Police Superset and 5705 & Fire Rescue  Starter Set, MSRP is $15, the first batch was priced there, and latest boxes coming in are priced at $24

The price increase is inconsistent, as if you rummage thru the older sets you can still get them at the MSRP range ... the rest are just jacked up.  I'd really love to support my local toy store, but not when prices are above even that of the Mfg.
