Back in June when we first visited Eugene to check out the city, I found an unopened 3666 Castle set on the shelves in a toy store called Elephant's Trunk, part of the 5th Street Market complex.

I didn't buy it then, because it's big and heavy and I didn't want to leave it with a friend, but I made a vow that I'd go back when we finally arrived for good, and check if it was still there.

Well it was, plus a 3667 I hadn't remembered, so I doshed out $330 for the two, and had it away on my toes before they could stop me.

I don't need them, I've got at least two of each castle already, but those were second-hand off eBay, and there's a special magic in opening a set for the first time and releasing those klickies - especially when they've been imprisoned for 16 years!

I figure Tim has had 16 years to buy them and not done so, so I'm not robbing anybody by snapping these up, and there's a basic rule - you can NEVER have too much Steck.

Great news, Martin.  As you say, opening a new box, especially one as big as a 3666 one has an indefinable magic.

AH, that's great Martin. Elephant's Trunk is almost always much higher in price than the other main Playmo stores here on current stuff. It tends to stick around there because of that until it has enough collectible value/rarity to be worth the price to someone.  I am horribly cheap and have only bought a few sets there. I am glad to hear the Klickies have gone to a good home.  :xmascheer:

Congratulations on your new castle purchases, Martin! :xmascheer:  Those are two wonderful, classic sets and to open them when new must be a great thrill and something very special.  As you write, one can never have enough Steck!  ;)

So true!  As Kaethe said, this lucky find bodes well for your move to the beautiful state of Oregon which seems to produce as well as attract many fabulous individuals who also happen to be Playmobil fans (did I ever mention that I grew up in Portland?  :toot:   ;D

Enjoy your new castles, Martin!   :xmascheer:

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Ive been going to that store for years, vowing to get those two sets.
The age of vintage playmo is truly over then. At least in Oregon
Well, hope you enjoy them. I bought my original one six years ago and it still serves me well.
Still, would have been great to have more steck. (grumble grumble Hadrians Wall.)

Sorry you missed them elderberry, but you did have ample opportunity to fulfil your vow before I arrived!

I agree Tim, the store is unfortunately overpriced for most Playmobil, but I couldn't pass up these old sets. As you know I saw the same 3666 castle in  Dublin recently, but at 200 Euro it was a great deal more expensive, and harder to get home!

I doubt I'll be buying much in Elephant's Trunk after this, beause they are so expensive.  I was suprised there was no comment by the staff when I bought these two, as for many of them these sets must have been on the shelves since before they were in Elementary School. I guess to a non-collector one set is much like another, except for the size of the box.
