Store Signs
« on: November 13, 2009, 00:31:31 »
Hello Everyone

Well yesterday while I was working on a new used truck I had a delivery. As it turns out this gentleman used to own a local brick and mortar shop and a few years back closed it down . I met him by responding to a local add . He personally delivered the sign and said if I would be interested in 2 or them ? Would I  :D I bought the signs and showed him around the collection . He was so shocked and amused by the collection he wanted to contribute. He told me he has a large amount of used G scale track and 4 very large boxes of Playmobil  :hmm: . He said after he talks to his wife and they keep what the 9 grandkids will play with I can have dibs on the rest . Oh I wonder what is in there  ???

If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Cool signs, did the guy explain where he got them? Two long lived themes, I wonder if they're still making the same style of sign for the current themes like Egyptians and Romans.

Congratulations Ras'

These signs are great and quite big compared with the figure at the bottom  :yup:

Do you know where you will put them ? In the Barn where you display your Western Train layout maybe ?

Karim :)

Congratulations, Ras!  Two great additions to your collection (and apparently maybe more to come).

Hello

Thank you Tiermann, Gepetto, KM, Martin M, Karim & Gordon  Thank you for the compliments :wow: I really did not know why I wanted them but just figured that the opportunity was there and delivered so why not .

Martin, The gentleman that brought them owned a store and I imagine he had them hanging up somewhere. I usually see the cardboard wall posters or the giant Klickies but this is a first on these. I could ask the other local store owner if there is some kind of retailers book on ordering these things to see if they still have them.

Karim, At first I thought of that but our barn was for built for cattle and sheep in the 40's so the ceilings are low. I guess the people here wanted to save on wood  :eh?: or they were midgets    ;)  Then I thought of using them as part of our Train display I am planning on showing to local schools .

Congratulations, Ras!

You scored big. I hope that you get lots of G scale track, as we both know how expensive it can be ... ;)

Hello Everyone

Well I just went there today and saw what they have . It was all new stuff and most of it was brand new still in the boxes . The boxes are the brown ones for stores to purchase for displays . They had 2 4270 Roman Arenas, 2 4276 Roman Ships, 2  4294 Light Houses, 2 4290 Pirate Ships, 1 4464 Zoo Cart, 1 4468 Zoo Pool, 1 4230 Circus Tent, 1 4232 Circus Trailer, 1 4233 Lion Cage, 1 4310 Jumbo Jet, 1 New Airport, 1 3268 Knight Castle that I am passing on ( I will stick to stecks ) and 12 pieces of 48" LGB brand new track and he is digging out the new Aristocraft switches .

I went into their 3 car garage and it was packed with toys from the 2 brick and mortar shops their family owned since the 50's . They really are nice and I could just see them in the shop playing with it all . Boy let me tell you there was a lot of treasures in there . The Playmobil was all new and I was hoping for the classics and maybe they are keeping it for the grandkids which is a smart move on their part .
