Mine is also my real name - Daniela.

Boring, but I like it.

It´s the female form of Daniel and all explanations are already given by Dan / KM.

Funny thing is, I was also called Danny, which is not very common in Germany, it´s most Dani or Dany.
But I always insist on the double N, because I was a fan of Danny Kaye and want to have the same writing DANNY, to honor him.

Only irritation is my avatar, because it´s male. But I love this figur, my first custom (Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria) and I prefer looking at men than girls, so I choosed him for me.

I had wondered about your avatar Daniela, but he is a fine figure and so worthy of the task. Thank you for the explanation.

simple one ... for me it is ... name comes from a song "In the hole of The Mountain King" by "Savatage" . Good song, 80's music, Metal band

And I thought you named yourself after "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from the first Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard
Grieg.  I must be old.  I have never heard of Savatage.

Abbot Hamilton was the last abbot of Paisley Abbey. Paisley was my home town in Renfrewshire, Scotland before moving to Canada.  The real Abbot Hamilton was executed during the reformation for refusing to convert to protestantism. I chose the name, as the priest figure from the merry mens feast is my favourite klicky and i wanted a connection to my home town. I am not religious in any way and would say i am a devout atheist!(oxymoronic)

Paisley Abbey

Real name is in my profile email, Joseph McGhee.

Thanks for bumping this old thread Abbot.

Great stories everyone.

My real name is Gijsbert I am named after my father and grandfather. My grandfather was named after his uncle who had died by the time he was born. The name Gijsbert actually consists of two names, Gijs en Bert. My Grandfathers name had been shortened since the beginning to Gijs and my father is known as Bert.

My name is Gijsbert and I never wanted to shorten it but at some point people will start to abbreviate your name, so unfortunately people started calling me Gijs as well which I didn't really enjoy. Then one day one of my classmates called me Gis (pronounced Geese, but with a hard "Dutch" G) and I liked it. The "proper" way of spelling it in Dutch would be Gies. But I was working on Music stuff at the time and I liked to use Gis instead or G#. When I went to university it was easy to introduce myself as Gis so most of the people know and refer to me as Gis even in my professional life.

To pronounce Gijsbert you basically need to go G-ice-bear-t. As an Icebear (IJsbeer) in Dutch is a Polar Bear, it also exlpains why I chose this Avatar. I am still wanting to change it to a clicky at some point but the Polarbear will probably still be in the back.

Well, I choose the name socrates because of...
...yes you are right:
The famous Brazilian soccer player Socrates.
He is a cool guy who became a medical doctor during his active time as a professional soccer player, I like this.  8-)

Actually, I had first my avatar, which is a slightly changed klicky from one of my favourite fun sets: 3868 - Street Cup Arena

And he appears to be very similiar in character. Just like me.  ;)
(well, at least I try to play soccer during my active time in academia...  :-[)
This is why I decided to take socrates as my username.

best,
socrates

By the way mine is grangel and it is explained as gr(Greece,Greek) + angel (My first Name is Angelo). So i am the Angelo from Greece or Angelo the Greek= grangel.
The really funny thing is that it means something in Spanish or it something for the Spanish because all times in MSN i'm receiving messages in spanish from other members. Never found what is it?
