I'm not familiar with toast being done on one side.

It's easy, KM ..

Just stuff two pieces of bread at the same time into only one of the toaster "slots" ... and, you will then have two pieces of toast done only on one side ...

Seriously, it's great for BLT sandwiches!

If you put bread under an oven grill instead of into a toaster you can have it browned on one side without cooking the other side. I assume that's what Sting means by "done on one side." It tastes quite nice but you have to keep a close eye on the bread to make sure you don't burn it. ;)

There are still some households in Britain that don't own a toaster because they prefer to grill their bread instead - my in-laws and my husband's late grandparents, for example. :) I think this might be a distinctly British quirk since I can't recall anyone I knew In Australia toasting their bread this way.

Btw, the British preference for tea-drinking (also mentioned in the song) is on the way to becoming a thing of the past. Starbucks and a host of other coffee houses are taking over the high streets and doing very well despite the recession.

I got used to having toasted bread on one side years ago when my toaster stopped working on a slot side! I didn't know it was a British familiarity ???.
I just thought I was being deprived  :(!

Very well.  Fair is fair.  If everyone else is revealing their secret identities (which wasn't the point of this thread, really), I shall do so as well:  Dan

I think Indianna knows my true identity from when I bought some Playmobil from her on eBay, but either she didn't make the connection or she very politely refrained from using my real name in PF.

That's me, the soul of discretion!   ;D  I never kiss and tell.  :shhhh:   Hi Dan!   :-*

BTW, I chose my Playmo identity of "Indianna" at a time many years ago when my son and I were using Playmo jungle ruins, castles, etc., to set up scenes from the Indiana Jones movies (which we LOVE  .)   Since my name is Anne and my father was born in the U.S. state of Indiana, it all seemed to fit.  Then Sylvia made my avatar for me (which I also ) so I have stuck with it, save for a brief stint as "Madame X" when PF was first launched.

My user name is a combination of my first and last names.  I think it sounds cool and Japanese, even though I'm not.

Hi Anne!

I suspected your username was based on Indiana Jones.  Do you have any photos of the scenes from the Indiana Jones movies?

"Indianna" is a very fitting name, especially since your father was born in Indiana.  It's clever, and much friendlier sounding than "Madame X."

  It's okay.  My username sounds Roman, but I'm not!   ;D  That's convenient that your first and last names can be combined into a good username.

I tried bread toasted on one side the other day.  It was okay, but I still prefer it toasted on both sides.

simple one ... for me it is ... name comes from a song "In the hole of The Mountain King" by "Savatage" . Good song, 80's music, Metal band
It's not the sword that kills but the Samurai who wields it ...
