Disassembling Hook & Ladder (3525)
« on: October 17, 2009, 17:07:48 »
Well in a lot I received a while ago there was this fire engine that was missing wheels, it had a broken area, one of the outriggers did not function, there was a rattle inside and really I just did not have any use for . I let is sit a while and I wanted to show how easy it is to take apart for painting/modifying, fixing, scrapping or just finding out what that annoying rattle is.

Flip her over and start looking for the tabs which hold the pieces together. On this one I was able to find 4

Now due to my humanly limitations I only have 2 arms and needed the help of something to spread the part while I pried the tabs open . I found a laundry clip taken apart had the desired wedge shape to use as the extra help I needed .

If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

I inset the wedge in between the turn table and body and push it in till it is tight . Then with a flat screwdriver I pry on one tab . Then pushing the wedge in a bit further and leaving it in I repeat on the other side .

Now with both tabs undone I lift the front section up and the rear 2 tabs slide out

Now with the turn table off the lower drawers are exposed for me to gently pry their tabs up to remove them .

If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Now we can find the 2 other cab tabs and remove it as well , use your wedges . Ah ha look what was causing a rattle.

Now that the chassis is clear the problem of the non functional out-rigger is exposed

Now pry the out-riggers off

Now lets work on the turntable. Use the wedges and work this one apart

Now use the wedges to work on one side of the ladder . Once you take one side off the other will slip out

Use the wedge again to take the 4 tabs off and split the table in half

And there you have it all taken apart for repair or modifying or as I am going to do is scrap it for other projects

Congratulations Ras! I have gotten to the point since I have disassembled 12 of the 3526, & 3525 fire trucks recently, which come apart the same way as your 3781, to be able to do one in less than 5 minutes  :)9. You have done well on this project! I have found that wooden door shim wedges work very well also.
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Great tutorial and pictures.  The clothspins are a great idea to wedge stuff apart.  I wish I had taken pictures when I took my DHL delivery truck apart, I spent over an hour getting the truck body off the base - 6 clips and the gas tank filler need to be removed at the same time.   I used plastic scrapers as wedges.

Thanks, Ras!

Don't you just love to disassemble stuff?

My favorite thing to do at the Playmobil FunStore in Orlando (before they closed) was to disassemble their Klicky key chains while they were still in their plastic baggy see through packages ...  >:D

Thank you for the compliment on this  :wow:

I have not really taken anything apart that I really do not have too many of yet . Your experience with the DHL will be taken into consideration and be one of the last I try  ;)

Thanks for the kind feedback
