    • Copt Hewick Volunteer Fire Brigade - probably the world's smallest fire brigade!
Here's a new machine for CHVFB, a pump/rescue, i.e. a fire engine with both fire fighting capability and rescue capability for road traffic collisions (RTCs).  These first appeared in the UK in the last 20 years and at first were seen as a way of getting two machines (a pump and an emergency tender) for the price of just over one.  Before this time pumps were really just that with no specialist RTC rescue equipment, this being carried on specialist emergency tenders (ETs) whose main use was at RTCs.  Some brigades went so far as planning to do away with ETs (some may even have done so), but common sense won in the end when it was realised that 1. you only have two machines in one when the pump/rescue is standing in the fire station as once it is out at a fire it can't be used at a RTC and vice versa and 2. ETs were needed for more than just RTCs, e.g. major RTCs, rail accidents.

First, then, a front view of the new appliance showing the front-mounted winch, part of the rescue gear.  Then a rear view showing the pump area and a close-up of the pump and  a view of the equipment carried in the rear compartment.  (The new police warning sign is being adopted as it is easier to store than the original yellow version.  It is common in the UK for fire engines to carry police warning signs.)

To end with the pump area, a view of the new suction hose attached to the pump.  I'm indebted to grisu112 on klickywelt for the idea of an adaptor and I'll show photos ot it separately later.  A rear view next showing the ladders carried on the roof and the ceiling hook, and the slide-out equipment trays on the right side.  Then, a detailed view of the equipment carried in the slide-out trays.  The bottom tray is glued to the slide-out base for added stability of the slide-out trays.  Lastly in this post, a view of the rescue side of things, the new compressor unit, cutters and spreaders on the left-hand side.

Finally, a look at the top of the machine showing, first, the main triple extension ladder, traffic cones and suction hose strainer one of the two foam cans with the ground monitor next to it and the double extension ladder just visible on the far side, plus the ground monitor .  The second view shows the custom double extension ladder fully, both foam cans, the suction hose and, just visible, some of the other equipment stowed on the roof.  This other equipment can be seen more clearly in the third photo, being broom and shovel, large axe, beater, and breaking and entering gear (sledge hammer and large crowbar).  The other piece of equipment is the stand for the ground monitor.  The last photo shows the two ladders, the standard Playmobil triple extension ladder and a custom double extension which extends to slightly longer than one length of the triple.  This is useful when working in confined spaces and can also be separated and used as a roof ladder.

That's it, and thank you for looking.

WOW  :o! It's amazing for me to see how you get everything so precisely positioned in your apparatus, Gordon! I only wish I could get my units so organized! Your new custom storage creations are spot on, along with all of the new equipment!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Pretty darn cool, Gordon. I can only agree with Bill. Your trucks are amazing. The amount of equipment, how its stored, etc. It's truly awesome. Good job.

Thank you both, Bill and Ben.  With your fire fighting background your comments are especially appreciated.

I don't have the firefighting background but I have to say that the stowage on your vehicles is always inspirational Gordon, first to be able to conceive and plan it and then to bring it all together so successfully. Kudos and thanks! :wow:

There is always something so reassuring about your vehicles, they exude competence!
