1996, a fireman, not the then new orange coated one or the new grey uniformed one, but a single blue figure with a yellow helmet and face mask, a fire extinguisher and various tools.  It may also have had a hose reel, but I can't be sure now.  I'll check on Collectobil or in Playmobil Collector.

I'll see what I can find, Baden.  It isn't on Collectobil.

hello baden.
as far as i can remember i started in 2001, when my nephew was 3.
i bought an old 3750 pirate ship for him on his birthday.
this set had been abandoned in a shelf of a book and toy store.
its box was in a very bad shape - i guess nobody wanted it because of this - and my nephew just considered it a relic /it still is now more than ever).
i helped him assemble the ship and got hooked since then.  :yup:
a few years later i bought myself another new 3750 and an used extra crew (version 3) on ebay.
 :)

Although I can't remember the exact date, based on my first sets and the dates from Collectobil and what I remember of my childhood, I'd estimate it to be around 1986.

I put 1974, because that's when I first had Playmobil given to me. Unfortunately none of my original "collection" remained with me over the years.

From around 1988 I would buy occasional sets that caught my eye, US Union soldiers, the Vikign Longboat, several of the first specials, and those I do still have.

In 2007 I caught the bug badly with the Romans, and having plenty of money an (I thought) lots of space, my collection multiplied by a couple of thousand figures, and my first ever buildings.

Now I've had to pack most of my collection away ready for shipping to the US, I still have a squad of Romans on the mantlepiece.
