Custom one bay fire station
« on: September 29, 2009, 01:10:26 »
Although I'm not sure whether I'll buy the new fire engines, the fire station is a different matter.  I've already bought one on eBay from Germany and I've also bought some DS parts and combined them with parts from the small town house (3959) and the fire central set (3176) to make a custom one bay fire station as might be found in a rural community with a retained crew.  I've also plans for making a two bay version as well as extending the actual fire station set to a three or four bay one.

Anyway, here are some photos of the exterior - not particularly good photos, but the best I could mange after trying for two days to photograph the setup.  I've tried to get the spirit of Playmobil by purposely not making a complete building but leaving hints that there is more to it if the viewer uses his/her imagination.  Thus, the exterior hose reel overlapping the end of the wall and the noticeboard inside the "office" hopefully say to the viewer, "There's more to this if you like to fill in the gaps."

Some more exterior views.  The roof on the appliance cab is a custom one by Little Jo.  Originally he made it for his own 3880 but very kindly passed it on to me when he bought the new fire engines and disposed of the 3880.  You can find further details on the roof here:

To end, some interior shots.  It looks as if a call has just come in and the crew are about to turn out to the incident.

I'll post a full review of the new fire station set (4819) when I get back from holiday in early November.  Between now and going on holiday in just over a fortnight we're going to be busy helping my 86 year old mother-in-law pack and move house so Playmobil is only a dream during that time.

Those are some very nice looking parts . Seeing how you put it to use gave me an idea. when you get back do you think you would be so kind to give me a measurement of the opening for the big red doorway ?

It sounds like your review are becoming a source of some very inspirational works .

I really like your fire station version with the new building components, Gordon  :wow:!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Thank you for your kind comment, Ras.  The measurements for the large door opening are as follows: height 6.75 inches; width 71/8 inches.  There is a grove top and bottom running the width of the frame and approx 1/8 inch wide and 1/16 inch deep.  (I'm assuming you wanted inches; I can give you more precise metric dimensions if you prefer.)

Thank you that will do just fine , I want to know what will fit in there ? It looks like a train with the track is closer to 7  :hissyfit:

That's a very nice looking station, Gordon. Looks very clean and tidy.  ;D It's a good looking truck too.
