Greetings from North Carolina, USA!
« on: September 06, 2009, 18:34:26 »
Hi, I'm Lee from Durham, North Carolina, USA.  I'm a recent Playmo convert, being the father of two young girls.  A few weeks ago, I put together a bunny theme set for them, and we were amazed at how deeply they got into imaginative cooperative play with the Playmo.  Next thing I know, I was finding ways to put together other sets cheaply, including the entire aquatic zoo theme (found a great open-box deal with only a few missing pieces), and the forest theme for the 4-year-old's room.  We love the way the girls cycle from room to room, bringing a few favorite Playmobile figures to mix and match.  My wife and I are also excited about the lack of marketing tie-ins with movies and such (see Lego).

I joined this forum because I'm interested in learning about what other fans are doing, seeing the pictures from the world events, and finding out about the new developments in Playmobil Germany.  Eventually I may well try to build some custom things, and I'm sure this board would offer plenty of ideas.

Best Regards,
Lee

Herzliche Grüsse, Baden-Wurttemberg!  And thanks for the kind greetings, Bill!

By the way Bill, I've been doing some Craigslist searches for Playmobil stuff, could pass along anything good I see near South Carolina (i.e. Charlotte area) if you're interested.  I just saw the Modern House 3965 listed for $50 in Monroe NC, for instance.

Hello Lee, Welcome to this little place of Playmobil nuts . Making long distance offers is so tempting  it could make collecting even more involved . I saw there were two houses ( the other in Mooresville ) and I am tempted to get them for the parts  :doh: As if the local area classified and Ebay were not enough to keep track of, now you make generous offers like this  8}

Anyways enjoy your time here and nice to meet you  :wave:

Hi Lee! :)

Greetings from the Scottish Highlands. :wave:

My children were also the main reason I started collecting Playmobil a few years ago. It's hard to find any other toy that matches the detail and high quality of manufacturing, so it's no surprise that many parents keep going back to the store for more. :)

Have fun building your family's own Playmoworld and come and talk to us about it whenever you can. :)9

Welcome Lee,

Playmobil appear to be phasing out the bunnies theme, so grab any bunny sets you need if you see them. I got a great 4460 Bunnies' Treehouse while in Newport, Oregon, which is destined to become a Hobbit Hole.

Considering the success of Sylvanian Families http://www.sylvanianfamilies.com/index.php?cPath=21 it's suprising that Playmobil didn't follow the bunnies with a range of anthropomorhic animals, especially considering how easy it would be with just a handful of extra moulds, and how popular they would be with both boys and girls.The scale is very close, and many Sylvanian families items can be used to enhance Playmobil play.

I agree that the lack of licensing allows freer imaginative play, though some think it's a missed opportunity.

cheers,  Martin
