System X can be fun
« on: September 04, 2009, 12:27:16 »
Yesterday I found a bag of system x pirate jail parts at a recycle store for 1.5 euro . I already had a 4251 (kitchen for the fantasy castle). And with these two sets I played all night long. System X can sure be fun. The possibilities are endless!

Now I need more  ;D. But I realised that cool system x sets are as rare as steck these days ...

Hello, HC ...

Obviously, like me, you love construction toys. I remember spending many hours with Playmobil's Steck System creating all kinds of buildings.

I had hoped that System-X was going to be mathematically perfect like Lego. Regardless, it turned out to be, as you found, lots of fun with endless possibilities.

I've always liked the potential of Lego, but I never really liked the "finished" product with all of its exposed "lugs". I also like Klickys a whole lot more than Minifigs.

Considering all of the incredible "masterpieces" that have been built using System-X, I don't understand why Playmobil is not making everything compatible with this construction system. There are so many new buildings being produced that are "snap-together" rather than System-X. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

HC, to change the subject, I noticed that you're using a Mac. I wonder how many Playmofriends also use Macs?

Thanks for your post.

All the best,
Richard

I only wish :( my Royal kitchen floor had come brown ("by mistake" ::) ), so as I could use it ... I don't like the light pink floor for my scenarios ... The window, on the other hand, is very pretty :yup: ...

I never shot it, by the way.

I too think the System X has it's place in the creative world of Playmobil. The ones i think of are TJ's roman building, Michael's scenes, Kenc's church and there are so many others. I know a lot of people dislike the holey floor look but i think a lot of that can be concealed with proper floor coverings. I find it hard to be leave that it is slowly being phased out for the newer one piece sets. Now it looks like even the rocks are being replaced with single molds  ::) What next ? mold all the Klickies accessories (hats, gloves, tools, weapons, etc...) in one piece as well  >:( Part of the original fun in playmobil is that fact that all the pieces are interchangeable , buildings included

PS Richard I use a mini-mac
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Hi Richard,
Before I started my playmobil collection, I was a big LEGO fan, but I realised that I was always trying to mimic the Tudor style houses of playmobil. So is started to buy some steck houses and initially I was disappointed how limited that steck was. For example: you can not put a the sheriffs office prison in a Castle building with a floor on top,...). But then I realised that is was fun to make new things in a very limited world (and that painting and cutting is OK, which is totally forbidden in the LEGO world).

I was amazed about the capability of system X but also think it is way to difficult for a four year old with that silly screwdriver). I don't know if they are going to phase it out, some themes seem to use it a lot (Modern themes like school, fire and police). Whilst others seem to ignore it completely( Egypt, new pirates, fantasy knights). I just think it depends on the designer of the theme, whether or not he/she likes to used it.
I just wish they made some new steck parts.

I love macs, i cannot see a reason to use windows but then again I am not a hard core computer user.

Familiarity...

My brother uses Macs, I've used PCs for the last 15 or so years. Using a Mac when you're used to the windows layout is like driving in a foreign country.

I'm a Dell PC, & Gateway laptop user  :-[! Old school I know, but I like Windows, because that's all I'm used to using! I'm old, so don't mess with my comfort zone  :hmm:!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!
