european 5778 pirate ship?
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:31:29 »
i just found an image of a 5778 skull pirate ship that looks different from the one that was released in usa in 2007.  :hmm:
this might look not very important but the american box (see picture attached) has a "skull pirate ship / bateau corsaire noire" marking.
this "new" box hasn't got anything besides the 5778 number.  :yup:
i am guessing (hoping) the original english/french box is intended for usa/canada and this new one could be intended for the european markets (a babel of languages).
the same thing happend with its little brother, the 5810 schooner that suddenly, without warning, appeared in european shelves
can anyone confirm this?  :-\
please?  :wow:

... and it also misses those "fancy" yellow star "text bubbles". I think that's not new and has been already on several other sets on the past.

Maybe it's because the US is more "descriptive"  :P -- I just have to think at some of their traffic signs with lots of text on it (tiny letters in lot's of lines) for which I always got in trouble: "Uh, there comes up a sign ... what's written on it? ... have to get closer because the letters are so small ... ups, just passed it ... couldn't read (and translate) all written on it ..."  >:D

(Just joking ... no offend)

But serious: Maybe there are market observations that the US market is more attracted more by yellow stars and explaining text on packages than the European market (although I think, that it absolutely might be a reason, that w.r.t. to citizens the European market is splitted to more languages than the US).

...yes little jo, but do you really think this set is coming to europe?  ???
i found it on the french ebay in the same day i was deciding to buy the american version.
now i have doubts - if it is going to be released in europe, i can save some money in shipping cost and a lot of trouble not having to deal with the customs office.  :yup:
can anyone confirm my suspicions?

Sorry for my "off-topic" answer ...

Anyway: as far as I could investigate (I'm not a priate specialist) this was a special edition in October 2006 sold exclusively at Woolworth (in Germany). It seems that this was also sold at Finnland; so you're obviously right: it was/is a European edition.

thanks for the great detective work little jo.  :wow:
unfortunately this informations "kills" my hopes of a more accessible 5778 - the pseudo-european version is even older than the american one.  :'(
it seems so strange to me that this can occur.  ???
what's the point in releasing in one country, and in a single store of another, a set that is later sold in another continent?  8}
... and nobody knew this - no sets were found on ebay then (or now) no news in forums.  8}
even very limited german-store-specials like the 4073 karlstadt schatzinsel (a revised-re-release of the original 3799 island) were widely announced and can still be found on ebay.  :yup:
the elusive 5778 remains a mistery to me.
  :hmm:

Those days this had been news in a German forum (from there I got the information).
