Need Zirndorf FunPark pointers/info/etc ...
« on: February 12, 2009, 06:37:22 »
Well first off my apologies, this was the closest forum I'd thot I would post to wrt my question ;D

Bottom line, family (with boys 5 & 9) will be stopping by Frankfurt (NYC->FRA->elsewhere) for a couple of days (exact # is flexible) this Summer about mid July and we're thinking of making a visit to Zirndorf FunPark and if possible, LegoLand Deutschland.  Let's just tackle Zirndorf for now  ;)

- Is the park more a day-trip thing, or will 2+ days stretch it a little long?
- travel suggestions from FRA airport (noon arrival) Train/Bus combo?
- accommodations around the park?
- worth my while to call the FunPark to see if they can help with some arrangements (in English)?

To complicated matters a little, we have the option of going to Stuttgart (or Berlin, but that's way far North though) and travel from there.

*now*, there's the "let's kill 2 birds with one stone" thot of tagging on LegoLand to the trip - is that sort of do-able without too much of a hassle? :D

For a quick background, knowledge of German language (or any other EU language) is next to nill, but we've successfully traveled around Denmark/Sweden/Norway/Netherlands by train/air before.

Did you already visited the Web site about the park?

http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-GB-Site/en_GB/Link-Page?cid=START_ZIRNDORF

At least at the German one (didn't investigated on the English site so far) there are quite a lot information about.

cf. http://download.playmobil.com/public/eCS/Store/de/FunPark_HP/start.html

There you also can get a map of the park (don't now if this is in English available too) -- cf. Übersichtsplan

There is a hotel right opposite the street next to the entrance (in the map no. [19]). There you can get a room for 114 € (2 adults and 2 kids).

Wether one day is enough to stay I cannot answer. Personally I would say yes. You can see everything of the park walking around in about -- I think -- 90 minutes depending on how slow/fast you are walking. Beneath many things to see (large Playmobil figures and buildings) main thing are the playing attractions for children. Here it depends how long the kids want to play in the water, in the sand, climbing, playing mini-golf, rafting, etc. I think it also depends on the weather; although on rainy days you can explore quite a lot at the Hop Center but for sure if raining like dogs and cats typically you do not spend much time outside or play in the sand.
And then there is the shop which also needs some time to investigate  ;D

At Legoland I have never been. But it's more "on the route" travelling from Stuttgart to Zirndorf than travelling from Frankfurt to Zirndorf (or you may Travel from Frankfurt to Zirndorf, Legoland, Stuttgart).

About travelling by railway I cannot say much because I'm not familiar with (I mostly travell by car), but it's not difficult. It shouldn't be an issue and I suppose your travelling agency can make up a route for you from Frankfurt.

Travelling by railway you also can explore on the English site of the Deutsche Bahn by yourself:
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

Typically you can go around with English in Germany quite well (since quite several decades every pupil has to learn English at school).

Did this help?

Well, I think it is worth to spend two days.

- travel suggestions from FRA airport (noon arrival) Train/Bus combo?

I think there are good connections via train from Frankfurt to Nürnberg. From Nürnberg to Zirndorf you should go by bus.

- accommodations around the park?

There is a playmo-hotel at the funpark.

- worth my while to call the FunPark to see if they can help with some arrangements (in English)?

That must be no problem.

Stuttgart is much nearer to Legoland than Frankfurt, but the distance to Zirndorf is quit bigger I think.

I have never met anyone that has gone to the FunPark but I know many people who have gone to Legoland and raved, raved, raved about how great it was.  I want to go to both!  Maybe in a few years when my kids are older (currently 3 and 6)

Thank y'all so much for all the info!  Will definitely make our planning much easier, if not point us in the right direction.  I'd suppose first thing's first is to confirm the dates of our trip, and give 'em a call :D  Promise to give an update!

I took my family to the Zirndorf Fun park last april.
We did not know what to expect as there was little info on the website at the time, we decided to stay in Zirndorf for 3 days and explore the whole area, however....
We got there on friday lunchtime and went straight to the park. Entrance pricing was very reasonable at around 6 euros each, and we wandered around the whole external in around 3 hours with the odd break for drinks and snacks (kids are 4 and 2)
We found that even after walking round and having a go on all the activiites we had not noticed all the amazing detail provided by lifesize playmo.
We ended up going back on the saturday (for around 6 hours) and sunday (for a further 6 hours) and still did not fully take it all in. It really is a magical place, with no actual rides. instead you have to do it all yourself and therefore educational and exercise filled for kids and adults alike.
With regards to staying, we stayed at the Cine hotel Marconi in Zirndorf (situated on the main square overlooking the town fountain which is adorned with full size ornamental playmo)
We are going back again this year, and my kids talk about it a lot, and love looking at the photos. We will again visit for at least 3 days, and again I do not think we will fully take it all in.

Hope this helps

Thanks Adrian
