third floor:  maternity and cafeteria

OB 1:  this is an older hospital, and the rooms are small and crowded, especially with the fathers in the ORs

newborn nursery.  twins!!!

the nursery, warming lights, lots of crying.  oops, i need to put a rocking chair in there

the preemies are sooo tiny, and fighting sooo hard

maternity waiting room

waiting for the elevator, the residents have been on call for 24 hours, they need that coffee

the cafeteria is always crowded, and actually the food here is pretty good!

four more floors to go

Hello, Kaethe ...

Thanks for the close-ups and the very comprehensive (and very easy to understand) tour of your hospital.

I never realized before, how similar a hospital is to a well run factory ...  :klickywink:

Wishing you a  Merry Christmas ... :xholly:

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

fourth floor:  radiology, pharmacy, blood bank

the elevator is always sooo crowded

radiology:  the unit is scheduled for a major renovation at the end of 2009 for the installation of the new interventional radiology scanner, providing the opportunity for even more minimally invasive surgical procedures, and faster patient recovery

it is difficult to photograph the radiology control desk through the protective shield

the pharmacy is secured behind bulletproof windows

blood bank, hopefully always there when we need it  (i received boat cleats from ds instead of garbage can inserts)

fifth floor:  med/surg

these patient rooms are due to be remodeled, for rehab, as their proximity to the elevator always made them very noisy

sixth floor: pediatrics:  again, a symptom of an old hospital, the pediatric unit is drab, and desperately in need of remodeling, also planned for 2009

vicitim of a drunk driving incident, thankful to be alive, hoping to be discharged to a step-down rehab unit

ready for discharge

pediatric ward (oops, need to change the chart info!)

seventh floor:  heliport:  very outdated, and in need of remodeling to meet current safety standards, nonetheless, equipped and ready

the PCMC 5 year plan includes the previously mentioned renovations, plus, being in san francisco, there are many retrofits to meet current earthquake standards.  the facility has a trauma 1 status, but the emergency department is rapidly outgrowing their space, a new robotic surgery suite and a new rehab unit are planned, to replace the current offsite facilities.  the hospital foundation is working closely with the community to balance the expansion with neighborhood impact.

(all for now, thanks for viewing....kaethe)

Wow what a great hospital and all those nice details. Very well done. I wish I had to many parts for making such a great equiped building.

p.s.: One thing I wonder: the presence of so many cellular/mobile phones. In Germany it is prohibited to use any mobile phones within a hospital.

Hello Kaethe :),

I have really enjoyed looking at your pictures. I am a big fan of the hospital stuff but unfortunatley i dont have any hospital buildings or the free space to set one up (at the moment). I really do like your attention to detail and how you use different parts from other sets to add the detail to your room's. One of my favorites is the radiology department and the controll desk behind the protective glass. If i was going to have a Playmobil hospital this is what i would want mine to be like :wow:.

I am looking forward to seeing more of your collection  :)9...

Tim  :)

My mother's currently in Hospital and where she's at, the use of celphones is allowed. I was surprised as well; but it was even mentioned in the hospital's leaflet  :o

So, I guess it all depends on the whereabouts of the hospital and where you are in the hospital

Fantastic! Really fantastic, Kaethe! :D

That is an amazing building!
I never thought that a Playmobil hospital could be so interesting (or so tall! ;D) but you have made it so by including so many true-to-life details.

Great job!  :)9

Thanks for taking the time to post all those close-up photos! :-*
