my medical center, first view
« on: December 22, 2008, 00:33:37 »
hi everyone.  i finally finished the first phase of my medical center, of course there is always more to be done.  to briefly reintroduce myself, i started collecting playmobil when it first came to the states in the late 70s when my children (now 31 and 29) were little.  as with everyone, we couldn't buy everything we wanted, but ah well.  in addition to the usual themes, and being a nurse, i collected all things "nurse" as well.  i have always wanted to build a big hospital, and finally found the time and $$$ to do so.  today, rasputin came by to pick up some things i didn't need to keep and helped me with the photo posting.  i  only have the photo of the complete set-up for now, i need to wait until there is more light to photograph the insides of the rooms without too much flash.  the first floor is the ER, ER waiting room, lobby, flower shop; the second floor has two ORs, and a scrub room, as well as the recovery room and a waiting room.  the third floor has the maternity suites, with a labor and delivery suite, newborn nursery, newborn icu, cafeteria and family waiting room.  the fourth floor is the radiology and interventional radiology suite (oh i need that mri unit from the vet hospital), pharmacy and lab/blood bank. the fifth floor has patient rooms, with all of the old generation nurses (you know, the miniskirts) and the sixth floor has the more patient rooms, with the newer generation nurses.  the top floor for now is the heliport, although the helicopter barely fits on the roof right now.  when i have more floor space, i want to use the old field hospital staff on the heliport floor.

Excellent custom hospital Kaethe  :wow:!
I did a previous hospital theme using the old large city house with multiple extentions that I posted on another forum, & you & I have used a lot of simular elements! I'm going to do a new version hospital in the future also , but nothing compared to your scale  :omg:! Do you prefer the old OR figures in green or the newer blue colored ones ???? I appreciate your great attention to detail  ;D! Please post more views of this beautiful creation  :camera:!

thank you bill and richard for your comments.  bill i think i remember seeing your hospital, was it single story, wide, and with lots of folks in the waiting room?
i will post more photos during the week, i need to wait for daylight.  my goal is to use all of the generations of figures, in separate areas, and try to keep them true to the era, for example the green OR suites do not have cell phones, although i just realized that i left a computer on the desk in there by accident. my favorites are the original white miniskirt girls, with their bedpans and the green OR staff.  one of my pet peeves is that the women in the OR cannot wear the scrub gowns over their scrub dresses!

i still need to collect lots of medical staff, and equipment, especially the old white wheelchairs.  i want to add a physical therapy rehab unit as well.
thanks again
k

Looks great, I am glad it worked out with the pictures . I can now first hand say that this is one amazing hospital . It is hard to see it in the pictures but every floor is packed with events . Kaethe has so much going on i could barely absorb it all in the amount of time i was looking at it . Kaethe generous donated some items to my kids and i am now hoping to find her some more stuff ( older Klickies and accessories ) for her project . Thank you for having me and the kids over today  :wow:
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Wow! :wow: Fantastic kaethe. The multiple floors give it so much more realism. If my klickys get sick I know where i'll send them now. Does your hospital have a name? How about St. Kaethe's

I hope there are no HMO's in there
O brother where for art thou?

here are the first of the closer views of the medical center.  sorry, some of the images are not as sharp as i would like, but because i built it soooo tight, i can only use my little point and shoot camera inside and i do not have my small tripod at the moment.

ground floor overview

lobby, information desk.  the cyclist's friend was hit by a car, sorry, you can't see the bike rack in the back.  actually the computer monitor should be at a greater angle so the public cannot see patient information (hipa)

rear entrance. the bench is officially 50 ft from the entrance of the building so staff and patients tend to go here to smoke.

buying flowers for someone special

( i know, the ambulance does not match the klickies, more to shop for)

the little boy seems to be ok, he is more worried about his bike, his parents, of course, are frantic

the ER is busy, this little guy seems to be handling his new crutches fairly well, mom, of course, is frantic

a steady flow of patients into the ER

everything from children with runny noses and earaches to older people falling, the older nurse handles the chaos with calm control

more to follow

second floor:  surgery

OR 1: an open procedure is in progress, there is a considerable blood loss, that is me bringing in the next unit of blood!  a quick explanation of the OR staff:  at the head of the patient is the anesthesiologist, then scrubbed in is the surgeon and his/her assistant usually across the table, and the scrub person, who is responsible for the instrumentation, then there is the nurse, who is responsible for everything for everyone, to make certain that everything is exactly right for the patient!

OR 2: a laparoscopic procedure is just getting started, the ultrasound unit can be used to laparoscopically locate the tumor

there is a shared scrub room for the two ORs, frequently older surgeons will continue to assist after they have retired from their regular practice.

surgery waiting room:  it looks like the surgeon has good news for the family

recovery room or PACU: it is just like the ER, feast or famine.  patients stay here about one hour

this patient requires additional blood transfusions and critical monitoring

these patients are waking up, and appear ready to transfer to their rooms upstairs
