Fellowship of the Ring
« on: November 23, 2008, 13:12:55 »
After telling Timotheos I was doing FOTR figures, it's a only taken several months to get my act together.

The whole gang. Students of Lord of the Rings will note immediately that not all these characters co-existed as they are shown. My bad.

The Hobbits, Sam in patchwork waistcoat and comfy cap, Frodo carrying the ring, Pippin in his Minas Tirith Guard uniform, and Merry in Rohan green outfit. Bill the faithful Pony stands behind.

Gandalf the White with Shadowfax, holding his sword Glamdring I haven't got a suitable white hat, and I don't think Playmobil have done white hatless hair. I always inferred from the book that GtW was a slightly otherworldly figure, so he has a slightly ghostlike whiteness about him. His wizard's staff is a little big but I don't like to cut the only one I have.

Gimli the dwarf and Legolas the elf. Cutting down Gimli's legs to create a dwarf was what started this project, as he was the most difficult figure to recreate. Legolas is heavily influenced by the Orlando Bloom version.

Aragorn and Boromir. Aragorn as a Ranger wears faded forest greens and browns, and carries a bow as well as his re-forged sword Anduril. Boromir carried a round shield in the film so I've given him one, and he's generally more heavily armoured than Aragorn as he's a frontline fighter. The black leather bracer just visible (due to my poor camaremanship) on Boromir's right arm is the one that Aragorn wears after his death as a reminder of a brave warrior.

I love 'em all, Martin ...

They are ALL easily recognizable and would be a welcome addition to any Tolkien fan's collection!

You did a really splendid customizing job, Martin! They're all GREAT!

Thank you very much for sharing,

All the best,
Richard

Great customs, Martin!  I don't know much about the Lord of the Rings, but they look good to me.

Like Justindo, I don't know much about Lord of the Rings, but I admire your custom work.

I've just noticed that Gimli and Boromir have the same head and hair! I might change that.

The Beethoven wig for Gandalf doesn't seem quite the thing, though it's certainly white.

Wonderful, Martin!  My daughter Jean made a super Legolas a while ago - I must see if he's still around and post a photo.  Pippin in Gondor regalia would be black-and-white - maybe this Viking child's torso? Could try Gimli with a beard braided in 4 braids, although it might be too long.

Super ideas Heather, I may even have the necessary parts at home. I'll have a look through my sets.

I didn't have many child figures to choose from, and of course they all had to have bare feet!

I too am not much of a fan of the movies but my sons certainly are. I am familiar with the characters and you did a very fine job representing them in Playmobil.

Thanks for showing your work .
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:
