Hi,

i think this was not realy the end of the trains the Set:

The Set 4010 are not discontinued yet !

But the problem are , childs dont want to play modell trains , so Märklin, LGB etc. have many problems to sell there items.
The childs want to play PSP , Wii or use a PC or Laptop and Internet.
We live in the new media future so Modell trains are not more interesting.

that was sad but true.

world greets

Andi

But why do they discontinue the track packages then  8}!
Children do not only purchase multimedia! Playmobil and LEGO still sell great numbers and still get more shelf space at most store.

Yikes, but have you ever checked out the price of those tracks?  I've never expanded my train set because last time I checked 5 tracks cost $40.

And the tracks that came with my engine set cover enough space to fill any decent sized room.  It's only that CEO dad pictured in the playmo catalogs who has a room the size of a tennis court to lay out his kid's train.

Seriously, have you checked out that catalog photo?  It's like Playmobil wants to incite class warfare.  I have to run my train very slowly so I have time to connect the track it just passed to the one in front of it.  Meanwhile, CEO dad has to hire a servant to replace the train batteries that run out halfway through his five mile circuit.

So my question is will the Roman theme continue with new replacement sets or simply gradually fade away and finally die off?  Only the ship, the chariot, the soldiers, and the Add-Ons remain.

Perhaps it didn't sell as well as they thought it would. It isn't the first time things like this happens.
The Viking Longhouse didn't reach 1 year of production either and some Specials didn't even manage 6 months ...  :'(

Bogro

I knew the first Viking Longhouse was only out for a short time, but I had no idea it was less than a year!  It's not a very good set, so it doesn't surprise me, but its replacement was even worse.

I wasn't at all surprised at that, actually. Each year there's a May-special. A set that will be sold that year only and it was clear to me that this year it was the flying boat and the gangsters hoovercraft.
Pity though - it is a great set...

So my question is will the Roman theme continue with new replacement sets or simply gradually fade away and finally die off?  Only the ship, the chariot, the soldiers, and the Add-Ons remain.

mmm - the replacement-thing is only done to a very few (extremely) popular themes. I think it's doubtfull that will happen here as well.
But you can allways hope  ;D

Bogro
... and then dusk came and brought despair.

Hi Richard,
I was sad to see that.  I thought that would be a good seller, since it goes with  every  modern theme.  I don't understand ???
Maybe they are saving their plastic to make a Playmobil scale battleship!

Confused again,
Jimbo

Will the Flying Boat return?

I wasn't at all surprised at that, actually. Each year there's a May-special. A set that will be sold that year only and it was clear to me that this year it was the flying boat and the gangsters hoovercraft.

Have they brought back the May specials in a different iteration, Bogro? If so, maybe they'll bring the Sea Plane (4445) back as an adventure craft for their new African theme?

One can always hope ... :prays:

I hope that you were able to get one (or two) before they were discontinued, Jimbo!

I haven't even seen them yet :(
It sure would make a neat African Adventure set aircraft, maybe in a zebra paint scheme like the
seaplane pictures I have seen from the 1930s-40s.  I can't remember the manufacturer ???..drat!

Hopefully,
Jimbo
