I think you misunderstand. It's a "tierverplegstation" meaning a animal-hospital. So they're not catching to sell; but catching to nurse 

As to the Gnus - I miss them too; perhaps they surface in the DS

Excellent observation Bogro! Now that you mention it, it appears that all of the sets with a water source may connect to each other! But it is hard to see until clearer pictures are obtained to really tell if this is an option. Though I see what you are referring to in the main watering hole picture, it seems to have an unfinished edge on the end that can be seen, like something should continue on  .

Actually, now that you mention it. When I look a bit closer to the pictures, I think you're right!
I actually think you can put all the creek sections together to form one single large creek.

Now that would be cool!

If you look at the big picture of the animal hospital on page one, you can see that the various river pieces do indeed fit together to make one long river.  Very nice!!
