No Blues is Bad News!
« on: October 18, 2008, 16:36:39 »
I just realized that I have not seen any of the Special Blue Box figures in Target, Kmart or Fred Meyer. Has the  blister and the new little sets done away with them in the Big Box stores? I find the same boxes in the little shops (at $3.49 a pop) but Target had such good prices on them I really miss them, has anyone seen the boxes in the main outlets?

Now that you mention it Gepetto, I have a feeling that this is the change for the future  :'(. we don't have many independent toy stores anymore so the big box stores are dominating the way items are packaged. The all too familiar blister packs show the contents more, & entice the impulse buy response. If items are packaged in a box form, they are not in the blue box variety anymore, but it more brightly colored print! It's a shame to see things changing from tradition to mass production right before our eyes  :0!

Well if it is a step away from excessive packaging (and its associated shipping costs) that is a good thing, but I do miss the variety.

I wondered if the special boxes were goign to be phased out now the blisters are coming online in greater numbers.  One recent Santa blister contained the same figures as the recent santa special.

Most of the shops I can get to that stock Playmobil have been droppping the Specials from their shelves, though they haven't added the blisters yet in replacement.

As I generally toss the boxes away after opening I'm not that bothered. I understand that blisters display the product better, and if they sell more Playmobil, I'm all for it. I hope it doesn't spell the end of single figure sets though, those specials have been great for building armies.

Besides that - the blisters are definitly a better value for money. Often they are two specials for less then erm... two Specials

Surely; that can't be a bad thing  ;D

Better value for money if you want both the figures. If you only want one of them...

I was told by the shop owners that the blisters were not available to them.

By the way, all--

Target USA now lists the Crusaders and New Pirates blisters on the website as store-only.

So, Gepetto, you may get the opportunity you wanted to build your Crusader army.

Still no Romans.
