I completely understand ... my brother and his wife spend the holidays in thier condo in Maui, and emails and such have been sporadic at best.  However, much to my sis-in-law's disgust, they have wireless down by the pool now

We have spent two different New Years in St John.

Cyber cafes are available, there.  So I would think cyber cafes are also on St Thomas.

Yeah, but who the heck wants to hang out at a cyber cafe when you're in the islands?  I can think of several places I'd MUCH rather be!!  

UNLESS, of course, you're going to post a picture of you in all your island glory, to make us all jealous, then, by all means

You still have to grab a bite a eat.
One of the cyber cafes on St John is located in an Irish pub (?The only irish pub) on St John.
(The other one in Grand Cruz is located a short walk away, in a place that sends and receives packages.  the third is in Coral Bay, in the same building that collects the mails outlet there, it shares the same parking lot as Skinny Legs - a local bar that serves great burgers )

And you cant spend all your time on the beach, unless you have spf 1000 lotion.

St Thomas is a shoppers paradise, actually.
Charlotte Amalie is a duty free port, and depending on what you are looking for, you can get some decent bargains on luxury items.

Well, there ya have it ... I'd be THERE for sure (though not necessarily for the cyper part )

Grand Cruz is the big town on St John.  It is located on Cruz bay, about 7 miles to the east of St Thomas.
Coral Bay is localed in Coral Bay on the eastern part of St John.  Some people moved there to be more isolated from Grand Cruz.
However, as with all things, more and more luxury residences are being built in Coral Bay.
So some local are moving east to get from it all.

Grand Cruz is about a 20 min drive over the windy roads from Coral Bay.
The East end is probably another 15 or 20 min drive away, and the roads are not as good the further east you go.

I've been to St. Thomas, but I've always wanted to go to St. John.  If they have places named after a Cruz, it sounds like a 'must do' to me

Its quieter, more low key than St Thomas.

you need a car, unless you plan to stay in Grand Cruz, and use the bus system.
A 4 wheel drive is nice because of the steep inclines.  Some of the newest developements, and isolated beaches do not have asphalt paving.

I havent been to St Thomas, except for one night, and to travel to and from St John.
