I finally found the picture I'd talked about. It's supposed to be in 19th century Germany next to a magnificent brewery .
Still, the style could work for a medieval tavern as well .
I find the counter too broad for a counter, Playmofool ... I'd use it as a long table, in a banquet or so. As a counter in an open space, it'll do fine ... It's good in the composition she made.
Inside a tavern, on the other hand, a counter sfould be of the proper width, so as to give enough room to as many tables as possible, I think ...

I don't like the western counter to be used in a medieval tavern, Martin, but I agree that it can be though to exist in medieval times. I'd better use it in some sort of Royal (inside castle) piece of decoration, with weapons on it, or maybe in a church, with a priest at the back, and a basin of water, and some other clergic instruments (a plate with bread, a goblet of wine, one of those three candle candlesticks
