odd sighting
« on: September 21, 2008, 07:13:44 »
I was paying Amsterdam a visit yesterday, and too my (BIG) surprise, I saw this set on show:

It had the same picture on the front, but it appeared to be a new release of the set.
Unfortunately, no staffmembers were available at that moment (it was very busy) but it would be great if it were re-released

Bogro
... and then dusk came and brought despair.

Here are some details from the shop's site itself:

(it is in Dutch, I'm afraid)

That's a great set with lots of play value, and yes, it looks like a whole new printing - the set number is not in the usual font.

It's interesting that apart from the container truck (and that may be a international generic name) it's the only set in the store with an English title.

Yeah!  Don't hesitate.  Order it!

Playmobil's distribution network is quirky enough that who knows how long that set will be around.  It will probably come to the USA, but only to Fred Meyer....   :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

This set has actually been around for a while:  check out Heather's listing for it and also click on the Collectobil picture there to see that it was an export market item in 2000.  I remember this set and, if memory serves, it was priced as low as $29.99 - pretty cheap compared to 49.95 euros!  :o

That's what making it a odd sighting! I bought it somewhere around 2004 for 30 to 40 euro's. I thought the set was gone after that; but now it suddenly turns up again!
I do have a soft spot for that set as it was the set that rekindled my affection for Playmobil and it was the first theme I completed (more or less; I left out the sets with only the white folk as I thought they were much too modern too my liking). So it's a bit of a trip down memory lane ...
