well jimbo, if you want and try other uniforms from navies around the world, i leave you with a picture of some portuguese sailors from the n.r.p. "sagres".
with only a litlle more black paint it should be easy (just kidding) ;)

The dixie cup looks great. I can see the whites very easily becoming dungarees and a chambray shirt.

Richard..Loved those libertys, I think I had a good time :lol:. 
I have been thinking about a seaplane flight crew since Porco Rosso.  I have a few ideas.

You are right about the dungarees and chambray shirt being easy...also, dungarees and T shirt would be cool.  My favorite is dress blues, but the pinstriping would be tricky 8}
The white hat was a bit tricky to make as well.

Pacific or Caribbean?....Pacific naturally :yup:.

This is a photo of a P2v-5 Neptune like the ones that I remember following into the Gitmo Naval Base back in the late 1950s.
(It would make a great Playmobil modeling project, Jimbo!) ...  :klickywink:

Now there's an idea!  The Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth used to sell bits of HMS Victory.   If they still do, I have a fancy for a British sailor doing the same thing.

Jimbo's figure would make a grand presentation piece to some old salt who'd served on the North Carolina.

Hi Dan,
It is, or at least was customary for the original commissioning crew members to get a "plank" from their ship when it was decommissioned.  I would have loved to have gotten a piece of my old bird, but last time I checked, it was already pots and pans and aluminum  stuff :yup:

I also think an old salt from the North Carolina would like the little Playmo Swabby.

Have you tried filing the the little bump on the Pirate sailor hat (sometimes used as a Chinese hat). I've thought about doing it and painting the hat white, I wonder what it would look like? Do you think that it might pass as a Navy Dixie cup?

If it would work, I could make a mould and crank 'em out by the hundreds ...

Maybe somebody else has already tried it?

Yes!  I saw the GITMO movie..It sure took me down memory lane, (or should I say flight path?) :)

I wondered about the Chinese sailor hat being a white hat...I rounded one up last night,
and checked it out.  It might work, but IMHO, it wouldn't be "just right".  I wonder if I could make a sample that could be used to mould some ???.

I just checked the Playmobil that I have here and, unfortunately, I don't have one of those hats with me.

However, I checked Heather's data base and found the attached image.

That sure looks a lot like a dixie cup to me, Jimbo ...

I also remember all the different shapes that they were bent into by all the different swabbies ...  :klickywink:

Can you take some close-up photos of the one that you rounded up?

This sailor usually hangs on the rearvieuwmirror in my car  ;D 

but not in these colours
