It just happens that our society happened to overeducate my age group and there is a lack of self motivated, sober, honest, reliable, physical workers
Can't argue with that, Ras. I think we live in a society of over-educated, layabout, drunk, dishonest, unreliable pen (or mouse) pushers, and not enough people out there actually doing useful stuff. I number myself in the mouse-pushing category.
In the UK it seems that every job now requires a university degree, even plumbing or being a car mechanic. Apprenticeships and on-the-job training don't make enough wonga for the Government, so they are discouraged.
My wife was actively discouraged by her relatives from starting any career that required the use of hands and bodies as well as brain, as being somehow downmarket. Now in her spare time she loves hobbies that require more handiness and creativity, like photography, knitting and quilting.
We have a society where many people now can't replace a busted lightbulb or a burnt fuse without calling in the handymen.
