new direct service pirates 2008
« on: April 29, 2008, 17:57:17 »
copying-pasting-cropping customizer  :wow: images in the new ds catalogue for 2008, i found a few new pirate sets.
i decided to create this new thread so that better images could be added in the future.  :yup:
as pirates seem to be an important family here at playmofriends (they got the 2nd place in "what's my favourite theme poll") i hope this new thread can be considered justified.  :)
here's the list:
- 7373ds . 2 kanonen mit enterhaken und geschossen
- 7376ds . soldatenfestung mit beweglichen kran
- 7377ds . turmverlies mit skelett und wachhund
- 7380ds . piraten kapitan
- 7381ds . 3 piraten
the images i add are very bad (as i said earlier)...

That looks like a new crop of DS pirates I'm going to have to get.

I welcome the small building sets - my first problem when trying to do a Pirates photo story was trying to get the stone buildings, as they've never done enough in one set to make a decent building. A couple of each of 7376 and 7377 and my pirate building problems might be ended - though I suspect it still won't be a cheap option.

I'll probably buying at least one of each of those for my pirate theme.

First playmobil pirates (such as 3542) are hardly identified as "Caribbean scum" ... The more recent lines of klickies are very identifiable as "dirty dogs" ... Maybe we can say that the theme passed through sensible change throughout the years ... (The "pirates" of 3542 can perfectly be used as soldiers of a Napoleonic military company, can't they? ...)

I can't say that pirates are my second favourite theme ... They are dear as much as the early klicky medieval collection, and together with the discontinued 1900.

I also think, Cachalote, that you might include the framework yellow house in the pirates theme. I remember the first dioramas with the first Playmobil pirate ship used always to bring European ports, and the cities were made of framework houses, and it is very proper.

What do you think about it?

(Then, since the Pirate Island (3799), they began to invest more in "the Caribbeans", so as to give a spirit more close to Stevenson's Treasure Island, which is great!, but doesn't nulifies the European port dioramas, and the concept ...)

After all, the action in Treasure Island begins in England!

My geography is a little rusty, but Richard might be Caribbean Scum!

He is!  I just googled the Virgin Islands!

The dioramas I remember, with framework houses, made me fantasize ports in the Netherlands! ... :yup:

I've been dreaming about two new possible dioramas (and I intend to speak about it in the blog, in the future*):

1. Napoleon's speech to troops near the pyramids (possible with set 4240, look up at Playmobil.com** ...) :yup:
2. Moby Dick being hunted by Ahab (or vice-versa) (set 4489) -- no matter what ecologists will say about it / I don't defend whale hunting myself, only it is part of either History & Literature ... I am saying this afore head because I think it may give loooong discussions in the future ... 8} :)

:wow:

*Not about the dreams, but about the possible dioramas ... Who knows by them the pictures will exist already ... I believe they won't take long to come out from somewhere, just a hint. :hmm:
**4240 in Ägypter, 4489 in Meerestierexpedition ;)

He seems to have the mood to be, but I know him for too little time to say ... You should probably ask him! ...  ;D

I am a bit of a dirty dog myself ... I hope to make a few (playmo)pictures, so as to show you guys. :)

here's a better (not that much) picture of the new d.s. pirates, posted by seerauber from klickywelt.  :wow:

after a closer inspection, only the figure in the right seems to be new.  :hmm:
all tha other klickies are identical to existing ones in other sets or more or less the same
  :)

only the figure in the right seems to be new.

I wonder whether Geobra is giving some kind of breath, so as to invest harder in the Spanish navy (4294 & 4295) -- Well, I think I can dream a bit, can't I? ... -- If they do so, I hope they don't keep mixing the XVth century with the XVIIIth; that hat they gave the "don capitán", in 4294, bothers me a bit, for anachronism ... It's definitely not educational! :hmm:

(All the rest of the set is lovely, though.)

Anyway, what I mean is that they may have in mind to launch something after. Piratas estão na moda ... "Pirates are making money", so as to say something like in English. (Maybe ... "Pirates are selling books" -- Aw, translation is quite a complex art! ::) )

Do you think the XVIIIth century collection (vulgar "pirates") might be affected anyhow, if a XVth century came up? ... They're very different periods.

 :)

Hello, Gustavo ...

I've been dreaming about two new possible dioramas (and I intend to speak about it in the blog, in the future*):

1. Napoleon's speech to troops near the pyramids (possible with set 4240, look up at Playmobil.com** ...) :yup:

Have you seen Ralf's Napoleon in Egypt Playmobil sets? Click HERE!

2. Moby Dick being hunted by Ahab (or vice-versa) (set 4489) -- no matter what ecologists will say about it / I don't defend whale hunting myself, only it is part of either History & Literature ... I am saying this afore head because I think it may give loooong discussions in the future ... 8} :)

Perhaps (for the many reasons that you have already stated above), Moby Dick might be a diorama subject that we may want to avoid making ... ???

All the best,
Richard
