Gustavo : Beginning again
« on: April 20, 2008, 01:00:15 »
Hello everyone

I'm Gustavo, from Rio de Janeiro. Here goes a bit of "The Odd Stories of Gustavo with Playmobil" ... I began playing with them at age of 3 (1979). By then, Playmobil was a popular toy around here. My father liked dearly to take a look at the picture of my first one, when I showed him, at Collectobil ... (3236 "Fire Truck #6", in Klicky Vehicles). As I grew older, My favourites were, for a long time, Western and Pirates, once there was no Knights collections in Brasil (except for half of the very first ones, mainly the ones of 3261, 3263, 3404 (see Collectobil "Multi Klicky"), and respective Single Klickies ... No farmers or royal attendants ...). (I kept wondering where the pictures of the Framework Houses came from, when I happened to come by them, but I was too young to go after them ...) I was still young when we moved to Portugal, where we lived for a couple of years (and a half ... 90-93). There I could begin doing some Knights plays (3329, 3653, 3674), and got amazed by the "Victorian" collection ... (It matched perfectly with a "Poirot" series that was going on tv, by then ...) And I even got some of them (5401, 5404, 5501 ... it was too many klickies for a young 14 year old to afford, but I began to get some, together with the first books). Then, on 93 we came back to Brasil, and I was getting old. Though I was beginning to take some pictures, I didn't have proper instruments, and I didn't start by then. Also, for ... reasons of impredictable life experiences (...) at some point of my life, I decided to give all the "playmobis" (in my country we call a klicky by a playmobil, which is funny in Portuguese, because our form of plural has no "l" for words ended in "-il", so the word klickies, in Portuguese, gets to be "playmobis" -- to those familiar with them  :) ... so I gave them all) to my younger cousins (daughters of my aunt, by then I was 21-22, and they were about 5 one and 8 the other). So, since from some time to now I began to watch one movie and another through Youtube, I began to miss my klickies a lot, and I decided to begin again and, in a way, begin in a new way. & Here I am, beginning. Again. (My first one is yet about to arrive, and I expect him as a mother expects a baby ... It's bought, already, and I hope to make a few nice pictures, and putting them around, in time, if they come out nicely ...) / I can't say I don't regret having given my klickies ... All I can say is that I understand the reasoning of my acts back then, as a youth. And that it's nice to have the chance to coming back to something so dear to me, now that I'm getting older.

Meanwhile, I studied and graduated, and am ... getting settled. (Still searching for better ways for my career ...) Also, meanwhile I wrote, and am still writing. This I can say that I did thanks to Playmobil, and to my playmobis. And Playmobil is still a source of inspiration to my writing. One of the main.

I was a bit shy about writing something here today. As I read some of your writings, I got a bit more at home ... I can say that it's wonderful to be here. I hope I can add to the group in the measure of my delight in Playmobil! Happily do I say so.

& My best cheers to all the managers, our Masters (& Mistresses) of the House. It's an exceedingly great job you've been doing here!: Thanks a lot!

I guess this is it for now. See you around!

G.--

Hello Gustavo!

Welcome and greetings from the Pacific Northwest, I am sure you will enjoy your time here and will not want for inspiration. Can you buy Playmobil in stores or do you need to send away for all of it? I guess we should be grateful that we have the opportunity to start a hobby again and that it has not disappeared. Best wishes.

A warm welcome from the UK, Gustavo, , and thank you for the detailed introduction to your life with klickies.

Welcome Gustavo!

I think many of us regret

1) not having the funds to buy certain sets when younger, and
2) giving away our childhood Playmobil.

Welcome to the board!

Hi Gustavo, welcome from Argentina!

Great history, similar to mine's own related to clickies.

Similarly to you, we called individual clickies "playmobils", each click was a "playmobil" for me and my pals.

Greetings
Pyrrhus

Hi Gustavo

Welcome to PlaymoFriends!

It's easy to understand why you would feel some regret over giving away your childhood collection, but I'm sure the Playmo brought many hours of enjoyment to your cousins. :yup:

Curious to know which figure/set you have ordered. I hope your 'baby' arrives soon so we can see the photos! ;)

Can you buy Playmobil in stores or do you need to send away for all of it?

I have to order them all. I hope one or two friends in Paris will give me a little hand ... Well, lets see how I am going to make it-- If you have any ideas, they're welcome. (I've thought about a three day trip to Europe, only to buy castles & old houses, but it was before thinking about asking for help of friends who live there.)

For the moment, Amazon.com, and not all the stores they have. (Only LaToys Etcetera sends to Rio, until now. I've been sending one and another e-mail to particular stores, but none could help, until now.)

Time, I believe, will solve the matter.

Thanks for asking, anyway!  :)
