Hmmm, yes indeed!  Didn't someone once say that in pagan times it was the custom to sacrifice young men on an altar, a practice continued today with marriage?
“Today well-lived makes every yesterday a day of happiness to remember and every tomorrow a vision of hope.”

It's probably not what it appears at first glance.

So, what's the real story?

The groom did indeed forget the rings (however, his best man had them)!

Actually, there is a very good reason why the bride had a cake knife with her.

She was so hungry from starving herself for weeks (so that she could fit into her  wedding gown) that she just couldn't wait to cut the cake! ...  ;D

I guess he just said "no, thank you" on the wrong moment  ;D
... and then dusk came and brought despair.

I guess he just said "no, thank you" on the wrong moment  ;D

Or, maybe he said, "Please don't eat any cake. You don't need to gain any more weight!" ...
