Horse with moulded-in saddle
« on: December 30, 2007, 06:52:14 »
Just got a old style horse with moulded-in saddle ("1974 Geobra C3" printed underneath) - just wondering when did they appear/disappear?!

Could you post a picture? I had Playmobil in the 70s and I don't remember these, nor do any of the old catalogue pictures show moulded-in saddles.

Could this be a prototype that they never officially released?

This is from the very early releases I think. I have two colors of them very dark brown and caramel tan. I'm pretty sure these came from Schaper here in the US, I don't know about other countries. I have heard of this horse in white but haven't seen one. What color do you have?

My parents bought me Playmobil from the very beginning (1974) and all my old horses had klick-on saddles.
I dare say that these horses were never produced by Geobra. I am pretty sure they were produced in license though.

Here are the pics.  fwiw this came fome a grab bag of Playmobil parts, all the other items were from the past ~10 year's release.  (The other old style horse in the back is from existing collection at hand)

Interesting, thanks Tiermann and Core.

I think the Count is right, and these are a licensed product from Schaper.

One benefit is the saddle can't become loose or lost over time, but with the variety of saddles now available, there would have to be a lot of different moulds, and of course the colours are fixed.

I still prefer the old horses to the new ones for looks.

I have a couple of molded saddles.

Mine came from the McDonalds Happy Meal releases in the early 1980s in the USA.

I have one of these horses with moulded-in saddle in dark brown.  I bought it in the 1980s and it came in a small set with a Native American chief.
