a REAL Roman klicky!
« on: December 08, 2020, 20:00:53 »
This is an actual Roman doll found in a tomb:

It belonged to a Vestal Virgin who apparently kept her childhood doll her whole life. I can relate! This is a short twitter thread with the story, if you can't read it let me know and I will make it so that you can. https://twitter.com/OptimoPrincipi/status/1335637149748748288

Very interesting!

Did it say the size of the doll?  "Resting against her cheek" I would not expect it to be really big, but certainly way bigger than a klicky?

Another site says that it's twelve inches tall. So about four of our modern klickies!  :rudy:

That's a normal BBI, Dragon, Hot Toys, Barbie, Sideshow size... (1/6) :o
(had a 12" stage, in my moronic years)

At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

I'm sure you're right - my mind was probably Rome-ing elsewhere when I typed that

Wow, it's more articulated than some of today's offerings. Pretty cool indeed.

This Barbia looks stunning! It's amazing what still pops up from centuries ago, and in such marvellous condition too.

Wow, this is fascinating. I’m impressed not only in the level of detail for a child’s toy from ancient history, but also the fact that this relic has managed to survive time, remaining in such good shape. I wonder how many stories this toy has to tell?..
