Zeus and Athena on the move
« on: November 11, 2016, 21:58:16 »
I got Zeus and Athena and took them to two art museums in my area.

Here is Athena on the bus ride to the Walter's Gallery of Art in Baltimore, MD

We found this Zeus in the Procession of the Twelve Deities from the first century.

There was an Athena as well

Then we found this Palladion Athena "action figure" from the late 6th century BC.

We then went to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. There isn't any Zeus to be found.
The one Athena we found happens to be missing her head, arms, legs, and clothes.

There's apparently one more Athena at the National Gallery, but we haven't found it yet. We'll keep looking!

Great idea and great pics!

Are you sure that nude is Athena? Is she...carrying ID anywhere?

That naked torso is likely to be Aphrodite as she was the love goddess. Athena is typically represented as wearing a  peplos (dress).

You may be right that it's Aphrodite.
Still looking for that Athena coin...

Oh this is fun  :)  I'm really, really glad they decided to follow the suggestions of the collectors and design Greek gods. Let's hope it doesn't end with these two!
