And the content of the box. It looks like every set comes with a building instruction these days.

It is a new klicky, typical pirate with one eye and one leg short. He has this “Jack Sparrow”-thing hanging from his hat, for good luck I understand. Unfortunately he is armed with the new rapier, which I think is a poor pirate weapon. I guess it is good in a civilized duel, but as a greedy pirate I think a cutlass or sabre is more appropriate. Especially since he is equipped with sheath for such a weapon. The rapier fits fine in there, but it looks strange.

The colours are new. I guess the colours and printing looks cool in a child’s eye, but personally I’m not so fond of Playmobil’s extensive use of printing on the klickies. They don’t match so good with my klickies from the 1980- and 90-ies. And this klicky clearly reminds of Long John silver. I used to call the one legged non-captain pirate in 3550 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3550 ) for Long John Silver. He was mainly red and yellow, far simpler than this flamboyant new Long John Silver.

He has a new hair, at least nothing I have seen before. Actually it is only a black bandana, and not a hair. Looks cool enough.

The accessories consist of a swivel cannon with three shoots. This was my first firing swivel cannon, and I am surprised to see it can fire over one meter! Four small barrels are also included. I like that they have the natural light brown colour, even though I’m not sure what they are supposed to contain. Rum? Salty food? Biscuits? The only thing which makes sense in my view to pack in such small barrels, is gunpowder. But what do I know… Too bad a klicky can’t pick up and hold these barrels.

Also, a standard parrot and a new crutch is included. The crutch has a small pole the parrot can sit on. I like the new crutch, despite it looks a little bit too high for the klickies. It is a nice new feature.

In conclusion, I’m not so happy with the klicky, but that is due to my own personal preferences. Other than that, this is a nice captain set in the new pirate theme.

Thanks for reading

Thanks for the review :)

I also like the small barrels... And I even like the colorful klickys, when the printing isn't off..

What I really dislike is that crutch, because it's completely off. It will only look good leaning someplace, well away from any klicky. It is out of proportion. A real shame, because the sculpt is gorgeous.

my favourite pirate ever is the one that came with the dvd, one of the first to feature a longcoat. absolutely fantastic figure even by 'nostalgic' standards. these newer ones, i don't think much of them. too much printing, yeah.

I have to ask though, why is purple used so much in the historic sets? You don't see it in the modern ones but it's very common in the historic ones.

Great set by the way. Can anyone think of a better crutch design? I think it would be very hard to have a crutch which actually fitted under the arm.

I have no idea about the purple...

As to the crutch.. it would have to be thin like film, to fit under the arm. This thing they did though.. it looks ridiculous. It's so off... A real shame..
