Fantasy Land - Kirkbean 2015

Another diorama from Kirkbean was Fantasy Land, produced entirely by my son William (skypurr jnr.)
William who is 18 has just completed his first year at university studying game design but has changed course for the next four years to Computer Arts. He has taken lots of photos to show his new head of department so I hope she will be as impressed with it as I was.
The diorama consists of different areas; from a lake inhabited by merpeople, then a sandy area, grassy plain, and a forested area leading up to a mountain surrounded by snow and ice. Inside the mountain is a burrow inhabited by dwarfs which has different areas for living, storage and a mine.
The whole diorama was 8 feet square.
First some overall views ...
These photos show the exterior of the mountain ...
Some photos showing the inside of the mountain which, like my ark mountain, was made from a wooden frame filled with expanding foam ...
This is inside the entrance ...
There is a forge to make and repair much needed tools and weapons ...
Storage areas ...
An area for a dwarf to count all their gold ...
A dining area ...
A pump from an indoor spring supplies the water - notice they keep a number of dogs and cats as pets too ...
There are sleeping areas too but these were not open to public view!
An important part inside the mountain was the mine.
Here a female miner dwarf is at work ...
I'll post photos of the other areas of the fantasy landscape in the next post...

Outside in the snow and ice, the dragons have their home, luckily it snows a great deal here so their fiery breath doesn't make a great impression on the snow and ice ...
Trolls also inhabit fantasy land but the dwarfs have managed to overcome them and train them to help protect their land ...
Here one is enclosed in an ice cave ...
Also in the icy landscape, fairies and unicorns can be found ...
Some fairies live in the forest ...
Some are not so friendly ...
The dwarfs have tasks to do outside of the mountain also ...
Others take time out to do what they want to do ....
While some have battles to fight ...
I'll continue with the rest of the photos in my next post ...

On the grassy plain a battle is taking place between the dwarfs and the skeletons who have come out of the ground to take part ...
The skeleton king is directing his army ...
While his queen watches down on the scene from on high ...
The merpeople try to live a peaceful life live within the lake ...
Unfortunately the sea monsters are trying to take over but the merpeople with help are fighting back ...
Finally a couple of photos showing how William painted the base for the diorama ...
I hope you've enjoyed looking at this, I was very impressed and noticed something new every time I looked at it. I'm sure William would appreciate any feedback you have.
He customised a lot of the dwarfs; I'll post some photos of them in the customs thread later.

Wow, awesome diorama with lots of creativity in such a small space. It's great to see how one can accommodate so many seemingly unmixabe themes
The ice looks very well made

Wow that's great! He did a fantastic job! Thanks for including pix of the empty base, I always find those interesting, as I think a good base is important for a diorama.
A great theme that was able to incorporate lots of different Playmo elements, so lots to look at. Loved the dwarfs home, (liked the wood lining the path to the entrance!), and the skeleton army in particular!

A very beautifull diorama, that dwarven mine in the mountains is amazing. I've not seen anything like that yet, its very impressive!
Is there a story behind that vampire dwarf though?
Outside looks very nice too, nice action shots of the battles going on. That plate is painted very nicely, please let us know what his teacher thought of it.

Great looking diorama. The interior furnishings, merpeople land, and custom dwarfs are all wonderfully done.

Very well done William, I am sure his Head of Department at University will be impressed by his creative and imaginative use of materials and characterisation. Using a number of different scenes to develop the story leaves you wanting more!
