Question about Shopping Mall 5485 Elevator dimensions
« on: July 23, 2015, 11:30:20 »
Well recently one of my children was very happy with the extension floor I put together for her 4324 School building, but now she would like an elevator so the essential wheelchair user child can access all areas....

I think the elevator from the Shopping Mall might do the trick. Does anyone have 5485? If so, please could you measure the height of the two elevator pieces top and lower sections and let me know?

If I am right, I can order from DS two of the lower parts and one upper part, plus the elevator parts and slider piece to make a lift for the school, which has a taller ground and middle floors and a shallower top floor. I have spare system X wall joiners to attach it to the building.
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

I can't tell you the measurements, because my eyesight isn't really good enough for that, but I can confirm that the lower lift portion (part 30 25 4343), when attached to the outside of the baseplate, is the same height as the tall walls and wall connectors:

And the upper lift portion (part 30 25 4353), again when attached to the outside of the baseplate, is the same height as the smaller walls and wall connectors:

One wouldn't normally put it together like in this following photo, with a gap next to the lift, of course - this is just to demonstrate the heights:

Note that the upper part is the top (and ending) of the lift. If you wish to use this lift on more than two levels, you would need extra lower parts 30 25 4343, and have taller walls on every level except the top level.

Wow, that's really helpful (again!) Raven. Not only confirmation but photos too! You have convinced me that my plan will work, because those wall pieces (taller, shorter) are a standard size in all the System X buildings I have assembled. And you are right, the lower two floors have the tall elevator sections and the top floor has the shorter elevator section.

Its not a particulalrly cheap option getting the parts from DS (£12.15), but I cannot see us buying the Mall just to get the elevator. A secondhand airport on ebay (another option I considered) would also be a lot more than this.

Thanks Raven! PF rocks!
