Interesting thoughts... I've read good arguments for both sides... this is what I'd like to say:

Mythical creatures: When you include dragons and unicorns, trolls should be as well. I'd give them a special section.
Bones: If it still has the shape of the animal; the Oviraptor/ Ornitholestes Dino skeleton (aka Betty); Yes. Just bones; no. Maybe they used to be animals but so are the sausages and the hamburgers
Crossovers, like the swan boat: Look at the last word; boat. It is a boat, not a swan so: no.

The main question is, of course: What information do the visitors of Animobil want? All about playmobil animals or animal related information. I don't think there is another site so complete about this subject as yours so you can include everything you want, I guess.

OMG, I just realized you have to include the My Little Pony ripoffs as well...   poor you. Don't you forget to give the a proper 'coiffure' before picturing them?

I'd say boycot those fake pony things by not putting them on the website. Dont encourage them to make such terrible decisions.

I can imagine it is hard to make a decision about what to include. I have been surprised by the completeness of animobil more than once. The troll would be a yes to me as a mytical creature. The bones only the complete skeletons.

The other things that are shaped like animals but have an other function in Playmoland, I'm thinking of the new splash octopus, but also the swanboat or teddybears are just objects to me.
But there is an exception when a mold of a real animal is used to make a toy like the joey and all those rainbow kittens, puppies and Frogs, they count as animals to me.

life in plastic it's fantastic

Thanks for the additional comments.

I have at this point decided to include bones only when it's a complete skeleton - so Betty, the mammoth, and the fish skeleton.

I am going to leave the troll out for now. I will leave it open to possible future inclusion if I feel like it.

I have included the 123 snail and 123 dino, and do intend to include the swan boat. My thought process is that if it looks so much like an animal that a stranger who didn't know it was supposed to be a boat/rocking ride/whatever would go looking for it then it should be included. We know it's a swan boat, but if you just had the swan part and weren't that familiar with Playmobil lines would you think swan first or boat? I think it would as likely be swan, so included.

Thanks for everyone's comments on this, and feel free to keep discussing. It's all been helpful in working out my criteria and thought processes.

I'm just curious where you'd put a centaur, would it be a clicky or a horse?  ;)

If they ever release a centaur or more combined kilcky-animals I would probably open up a new section for them and have a place for the trolls as well. Probably as a sub-section of the Mythical category.

Well, the klickies in those four sets (and their full skirts) are lovely and I might be forced to buy the sets to get hold of the klickies (only one has shown up on Malta eBay so far :( ). If I do, you are welcome to the ponies, Tiermann, but don't tell my mates down at the Blacksmith's Arms where you got them from :-[.
Actually, I saw a set of the four hairy horsies on eBay yesterday, minus the klickies and other accessories, so someone else had evidently decided to buy these sets, but not for the horsies!

Oh my giddy aunt! £12 each! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PLAYMOBIL-6166-6169-VARIOUS-COLOUR-HORSES-WITH-HAIR-THAT-YOU-COMB-brand-new-/121633739378?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item1c51ef9272
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)
