Egypt - Ancient and Modern
« on: February 10, 2015, 21:38:48 »
Another diorama from last year's Kirkbean Exhibition...
This was an Egyptian display.
Initially I had planned on ancient Egypt, however I found it hard to collect enough houses (tombs?) and figures to do what I had in mind.
In the end I decided to do a modern scene with tourists visiting the pyramids and for the "ancient" part, a film crew making a film about ancient Egypt.

I apologise for the quality of some of the photos because where it was situated in the hall wasn't good for taking photos and it was either too bright from some angles or not bright enough from others.

Here are a few overall views ...

A closer view of the pyramids and tourists ...

Some tourists on camels ...

Tourists round the sphinx ...

There were some archaeologists exploring one of the tombs ...

Meanwhile the filming was taking place ...

]

Some of the actors ...

A big thank you goes to Gordon's wife Diane who spent part of the four days of the exhibition going around sweeping up sand and putting it back on the display!

I now have to find another use for three pyramids!

That's such a great idea! What a brilliant way to combine ancient and modern. Really well executed too. Is that crocodile biting the don't touch sign?

The crocodile with the sign is so funny.

I love the footprints and vehicle tracks in the sand.  My favourite part, though, is the tourists on the camels - they look so much like tourists on camels (ie not experienced camel riders).  I rode on a camel once, and I probably looked like the first of the riders - rather tense!

That was a wonderfully original display, Elaine, combining the old and the new Egypt, and Diane really enjoyed sweeping up the sand and wonders what this year will bring.   ;)

Haha, I totally agree with Raven about the camel rider tourists and the crocodile at the sign and the tracks in the sand. Lovely details!
The actors still in costume taking a break look really funny too.

Thanks for the pictures!

Amazing display

The crocodile biting the sign was the first think I notices - looks so funny!

Also love the footprints...

And I am surprised the tourists have no helmets.... Ila, our first camel owner always tried to teach EVERYONE to ride Yngwie (the first camel :)), but she always insisted on the vict... I mean, the STUDENT wearing a helmet! (sorry, I thought of her as soon as "tourists on camels" were mentioned)

I have a very soft spot for those ancient cameras - and they look amazing with those big blue rescue trucks and lights! :)

I really like this one, it's a great way of combining the themes together and it's been handled brilliantly. I really wish they would bring back the cameras as an add on, it would be perfect this year with that model show series coming out. They just make such a perfect way of combining modern and historical themes.

Thanks everyone, I wasn't sure if it would work but was pleased with the way it turned out.

I think the crocodile with the sign was probably on of Skypurr Junior's contributions - there are a couple more: the child with the headdress, the scorpion creeping up on one of the actors and there was a man being attacked by a snake in the house!  Lucklily nothing as dramatic as last year when we found a clown's head in the lion's cage at the circus
