Did anybody ever find an English version that was not locked due to location?
Not that I know of, no.
That will be a huge mistake. Also the show is not doing that well... As far as I know, i personally couldn't pass the 5 min mark. It doesn't look PM to me. 
I'd say you are probably right. It's difficult to find information on it, so it doesn't seem too popular.

How many eps are there?
As far as I know there are supposed to be 52 small episodes, but not all of them have been aired yet. With all the different regions airing it too, I have no idea how many have been aired in each place. Sometimes with things like this, not all of the episodes are dubbed into every language also.
I did like the show, except the one that I think was an insult to women. I think the characters - even if at the first glance are NOT playmobil - are indeed well "adapted"... And there are loads and loads of recognizable playmostuff around.
I agree about recognizing the stuff! Sometimes it gets a bit exaggerated with things like the castles that stand all alone though.
Which episode are you talking about? I don't think I've seen that one.
I would BUY the darn dvd (as long as it had english audio or german audio with english subs) - but wait. That'd be giving them money, right? YIKES.

Ok, that bald one looks too perfect to have a "hair" over it...
That's what I meant earlier about there being possibly single-piece heads. Some of the hair pieces look so small that they might not be removable.
We'll need better images to really know.
