The Charge of the Light Brigade
« on: August 06, 2014, 15:05:45 »
Hi folks....

This thread is dedicated to all the "fans" of the ineffable Lord Cardigan.... >:D
And to all the fans of Errol Flynn....

Well....thanks to the insistence of a friends, this time I make 3 basic hats for the Crimea War....specially for the celebrated charge of the Ligth Brigade.
This charge was made by the 4th and 13th Light Dragoons ... 17th Lancers .... and 8th and 11th Hussars.
Therefore we must make caps for these three types of troop .... a Shako for dragons.... a Czapska for Lancers and a "Busby" for the Hussars.
For the Shako and Czapska be the most versatile .... I made with the protective cover "oil skin" ..... it is also more realistic because that's how they were when they made the charge.

The yellow cords are an option....I buy at a Chinese bazaar ...... are very soft and ductile ..... wonderful .... and give it a special touch to hats.

Going with the photos.... is what you like .... ;D

-1º The Busby
I made two variants of busby ..... the feather is a montage to distinguish the Official.
By the way .... these hats are also perfect for the British hussars during the Napoleonic period   :high5:

-2º The Shako.
Dragons shako used a very thin pattern compared to the Napoleonic period and slightly flared in the area above the sheath ..... with the oilskin is hardly noticeable ..... , the tan vertical visor gives a more soldierly , laces do the rest.

I have purposely left for last the Czapska .....for my taste is the most beautiful and the most complicated to give the proper form and proportions....but I´m happy with the job.
A little detail....The cover of this hat was buttoned to the side and so have simulated. :lens:

Well....I hope these pieces make the delight of lovers of this era and that some may see their dreams come true.

You're a true artist with these custom soldiers. Stunning!  :)

Your title reminds me of the poem by Tennyson we discussed in class. After reading in the paper about 600 soldiers being blown away by canons while charging, Tennyson wrote a poem about their bravery. There's a very sad, almost sarcastic tone to the poem though. It made me shudder to think about what happened there, such a futile attempt :(

I LOVE HIM....GREAT!!!!\
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
