Part One - The First Races'I'm bored,' said Sam, looking back over his shoulder and speaking to Bob.
'Well let's have a wheelbarrow race!' suggested Bob, 'I'll race you around the barrier, and back to here.'
'Ready, Get Set, Go!' said Bob, and Sam sped off ahead of him.
Sam was the first around the barrier.
And he increased his lead as he headed back to their starting place.
An easy victory for Sam!
'You look exhausted,' said Sam to Bob, 'I guess you simply don't have the strength and fitness like me.'
Bob was determined that he could and would be as strong and fit as Sam. He asked his Foreman if he could take a wheelbarrow home with him.
The Foreman said Yes.
'Why have you brought that wheelbarrow home?' Bob's wife asked him.
'Because I need to use it to increase my strength and fitness,' said Bob, 'I'm going to run round the backyard with it.'
'Be careful you don't give yourself a heart attack,' said Bob's wife.
'I need to show Sam that I am just as strong and fit as him,' said Bob.
And it did seem that Bob was increasing in strength and stamina.
His wife agreed to help him with his fitness regime.
When Bob felt that the time was right, he challenged Sam to another race.
'I've built a proper circuit this time,' he said.
The Foreman was the Starter.
Sam took an early lead.
He kept in the lead for the whole circuit, and won the race.
'This is no real challenge of strength,' said Bob, 'And you only won because you ran so wildly. If you had had anything in your wheelbarrow, it would have fallen out on the corners. So I'm going to design a proper course; one that tests both strength and accuracy. And you will find that I will
win that sort of test.'
