How to pop babies?
« on: June 13, 2014, 13:23:13 »
Like the subject says...

The legs come off easy enough.. anyone removed head and legs? Especially heads..

And, while on this subject.. there are not blonde babies, right? Except these new ones?

Great topic Tahra.  Never really considered doing this.

Are there Asian and Hispanic babies?

There are no blonde or ginger haired babies, but the new catalogue promises both  :)

I have popped a few babies (and I mean the oldest style babies), but all I did was yank at the head, it came loose, and so I was able to switch heads for different babies without any damage. I just used my hands.

That's why I have the black baby (from the Colorado Springs train station) with a white body instead of a yellow one. But I did the popping when I was a kid and unaware of the fact that that baby is so unique. Luckily, I like it better with the white clothing  :)

I think hispanic and indian are the same skin tone in Playmobil.

I've tried to yank out heads from the newer style babies recently, but that hasn't worked.

Ok, might try that. Thank you. Of course, YOU can also just yank the kids heads...  :-[

Problem is, I don't have many black haired ones.. there were only a couple on a special.. duh, maybe I should get another ;)

I think the new ones look REALLY dumb. Wanted maybe to use the bodies though... with the older heads. And these silly new heads would (eventually, when we get some) add variety to the old (unnamed) ones.. so far I only have that one we were given at the factory.

So, regarding blonde, I'll need a change of plans :(

Well, I can think of one or two I'd like to yank their heads  >:D

Okay, Tahra's question got me all intrigued, and since I have plenty of babies to spare, I thought I'd try this one for myself.

There's some good news, and some bad news  :-[

1) It still is relatively easy to just pull out the heads of the oldest style babies. Here's an example of one I popped just now:

2) With some effort, I also managed to yank out the head of a newer style baby. I used one with the regular Playmobil haircut rather than the nice wavy one, because I like the wavy hair better. I pulled it, and I think that loosened it a little, and then I thought: "Let's just use Tahra's fishing line method and see what happens!" It worked  :o

Then I tried to switch the heads, but that is not possible. The oldest style baby's head does not fit the narrower hole for the newer style body: the protruding bit is too wide. You might even see it on this picture:

3) I then decided it was time to pop the newest style baby's head. The fishing line method seemed to be working, so why not? Unfortunately, they changed the design on the head again. What happened is, they've secured the head of babies even more. The protruding bit has a wider part at the end, so it is firmly stuck on the body. If you really, really try to pull the head off... it just snaps  :wall:

4) The good news is, that I don't like the newest style heads either, so I'm not too bummed out about this mishap, AND, what is more, the heads of the newer and the newest style babies ARE interchangeable  :)

So this little guy now has fully operating hands and a slightly less ugly head!

This means that it is possible to change the heads, but then you'd have to sacrifice the newest style heads. With their lovely hair colour varieties.

Hope this answers your questions, Tahra  ;D

I am not too surprised by this. We know they are making the new baby top parts all in one molding machine, so molding the body around the neck extension. It's working pretty small but the best way may just be to cleanly behead the baby using a small saw blade and the drill small holes and use a pin to re-attach the head on the new body.

And just more and more brutal ways to behead babies get added to the pile.

Well, that IS something..

2) With some effort, I also managed to yank out the head of a newer style baby. I used one with the regular Playmobil haircut rather than the nice wavy one, because I like the wavy hair better. Actually, I think that regular haircut is VERY nice (all the old ones were "wavy") - glad to know the popper works. Might try, since that is the main immediate goal!

Then I tried to switch the heads, but that is not possible. The oldest style baby's head does not fit the narrower hole for the newer style body: the protruding bit is too wide.

GAH!

If you really, really try to pull the head off... it just snaps  :wall:

DARN. Those would add variety.

4) The good news is, that I don't like the newest style heads either, so I'm not too bummed out about this mishap, AND, what is more, the heads of the newer and the newest style babies ARE interchangeable  :)

Ah, so I'm not alone in the dislike..

So this little guy now has fully operating hands and a slightly less ugly head!

Looks MUCH better!

Hope this answers your questions, Tahra  ;D

Thank you for all the trouble! Sure is helpful :)

I'll need to try with a couple.. Like everything else, most babies have.. stranger colors.
