THE BATTLE OF DERVENAKIA 1822.....part A'
« on: April 06, 2014, 18:12:13 »
Hello everyone!

The last 2 months I've been preparing this diorama. As the photos were too many, I was forced to upload it in four parts.

I would like to thank:
My friend Manos, known in facebook as ''Playmotrick Playmotrick'', for the wonderful fortifications he made for me.
My friend Minas Arvanitopoulos for the two rare tends he gave me to use.
My friend Bert Hansen because with his help I could find all the arms I needed (rifles, pistols, swords), to equip almost 400 figures.
My special friend Giannis, known in facebook as ''Mark De Boer'', for standing by me all this time.

Of cource my daughter Angela, because as always she uploads all the photos and deals with this damn photobucket, which I still don't know how to use and never going to!

And last but not least, I want to thank my wife Larisa who helped me a lot in everything. She created 50 Janissaries and 40 Greeks, she helped me make the Greek hats, she painted silver all the weapons (the last time I PAINTED with spray I also painted half the house!) and she also helped me to set the grass in the battlefield. I wouldn't make it without her help.

I hope you like it!

THIS IS THE MAP OF GREECE IN 1822. THE AREA IN BLUE IS THE REVOLUTIONAL AREAS WHICH ARE FREE.

As long as Ali Pasas of Giannena was alive, the Turkish army was occupied with repressing his mutiny.

But after his death, the best Turkish general Hurshit Pasas was free to deal with the Greek revolution. So he gave commands to create a big army to invade in Pelopponissos and destroy the Greek revolution.

The Turkish army has high moral. The large number of the Turkish army and the faith to their leader Hurshit make the men optimistic for this campaign.

But a message arrived from Constantinopolis: ''THE LEADER OF THIS CAMPAIGN WOULDN'T BE HURSHIT BUT MAHMUT PASAS DRAMALIS''...

Dramalis is happy with the news.

Mahmut Pasas Dramalis is a general with many political connections. But as a general he couldn't be compared to Hurshit.

And the campaign starts....30.000 men and a large number of horses and other animals.

When Dramalis' campaign is known, in all the North Pelopponissos panic preponderates. People run to hide.

In the meantime, Dramalis enters in Pelopponissos with no problems.

This terrible moment for Greece, one man is the one who's going to save her!
Kolokotronis sent messagers to all the Greeks to join him to fight!

A large part of the Turkish army were Albanians or Turkalbanians. The Albanian Warriors, had been the most experienced infantry part of the Turkish army during the Greek War of 1821,(exept the Janissaries).Tough warriors, fought seeking to take women, children and loots. But in Sula they defetead by their equally experienced infantry Souliotes, and knelt on Valtetsiou from the tough Maniates and Pelopponisians forces......

In Dramalis's camp in Korinthos there is a huge argument. The two most capable generals Usuf Pasas and Ali Pasas of Nauplio try to persuade Dramalis not to continue with his whole army in order not to have a supply issue. They advise him to seperate his forces in three different parts and to move towards different directions, so the supplyment would be easier and the revolutionists would be incommoded.

Dramalis doesn't listen to the capable generals' advice. He commands the whole army (30.000 men) to go to Argos. The two generals insist. They warn Dramalis that he will surely face a supplyment issue. Dramalis doesn't listen to anyone.

The army, united, goes to Argos.

However, in the Castle in Argos he finds Ipsiladis with 700 warriors.

Ipsiladis is there in order to detain him and give time to Kolokotronis.

And Kolokotronis gives straight orders: DRAMALIS' ARMY MUST STARVE!!!....Storehouses with food must be burned... Wells must be poisoned.... The whole harvest of the Argolic plain MUST BE BURNED!

30.000 men and more than 20.000 hane nothing to eat. In the camp many diseases occur. DRAMALIS MUST GO BACK IN KORINTHOS!

Ipsiladis finds the opportunity to leave the fortress with his men.

Very impressive indeed, NtannyGavakis!  I like your mix of the Schleich tent in there too.  All in all very epic and cinematic.  Congrats!
