Oversized Dog Kennel on Wheels
« on: March 30, 2014, 20:08:22 »
Well, that's what it looks like to me!

Where is this from and what was it intended for?

Also, what pulled it?  It has a strange connector, seemingly unsuitable for either animals or vehicles.

I like it and I'm sure I've got use for it - but it would be great to know its original intention too!

It's a wagon from a german shepherd (not a dog!) - pulled by a donkey ;)

playmobil: 3412

(and I remembered the ref correctly!)

Oh wow, thank you so much.

No wonder I couldn't find a driver's seat for it - it hasn't got one!

And of course it is the ideal size for sheep too - yet I never considered that.  I'm so happy knowing what it actually is!

exactly, it has that classic charm.. I  have a few roofs from job lots and I am still waiting for at lest a wheel more.

We got one in a job lot recently (I just love those lots with hidden gems like this in them!) and I managed to get all the missing parts on ebay -except the donkey's saddle :(
Shepherds used shelters like this as temporary homes, I believe, in order to watch over their flocks. If you are a Terry Pratchett fan, you may remember Granny Aching lived in something like this (probably bigger though) in Wee Free Men.
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

I don't remember the name of the (german) series, but it had a "park ranger" (or something) called Rombach, and it featured one JUST LIKE THIS. Really. I remember we were both quite surprised. The shepherd was just like Sebastian too, and even had that odd tool. Unfortunately, he just held it, so its use remained a mystery.

I think that "odd tool" is meant to be a version of a shepherd's axe, as explained on Wikipedia:  Shepherd's Axe   :)
