What is this?
« on: March 19, 2014, 21:11:00 »
I got a couple of this in an eskimo lot I got off eBay a while back.
Any one know what it is?

(pic borrowed from eBay - thanks if it is yours)

It's a part that enables klickys to carry the skis and poles.. Those family snow fun sets had them, for sure... as the ancient winter sports.

The eskimos don't, but Patrick's - I mean the Scott Institute - might... At least the tent set comes with skis, though I don't recall those there...

I would have NEVER figure that out.

Oh, and I probably should of mentioned that it was a lot with eskimos AND some old polar researcher types.

And here are several in use (I thought I had a pic, but had to look for it)

They can be carried by klickys or put in that grid thing that goes on top of a car :)

Thanks Pippa and Tahra. I was thinking of posting a picture of that very same part. I thought it was some sort of a cookie cutter! And thanks for showing it in action, Tahra.
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

I have the 3463 Polar Explorers set with the tent and I'm almost certain it came with that set.  I seem to remember at the time that I wasn't sure what it was for.  :-[

I can see it on the box pictures of three sets:
Sets with handle for carrying skis and poles, but no mention on set inventories (and no part number).
More recent 'Polar' sets don't have it- set 3194 doesn't have it, but really needs it!

Good eye!

It does seem to be a useful little piece (now that I know what it does) I'm suprised they don't still put it in too.
