Happy to read that they're encouraging toys that will appeal to boys and girls alike.
It's neat to see the video too, nice close-ups.

Wait... first prize in the preschool category? That's so weird to me. The 3-year olds I know don't have the patience and motoric skills to play with Playmobil yet. Too frustrating.

I think the idea is that Playmobil helps develop the patience and motor skills in the child.  My three year old great niece is OK with Playmobil, though mind you at two and a half she was doing jigsaw puzzles for six year olds.

It would be nice if they could win something in a higher age category, but things like the carousel are great for motor skills and developing a mechanical intuition (you spin it, the chairs go out). My niece (4) loves Playmobil, but she needs a little help with some of the harder bits (she's great at dismantling things - not so great at putting them back together).

Good news! It looks great.

I think the problem is that they lack a category 5-8. I think children that age like Playmobil best.

My 6 year old loves Playmobil. He can play with it on his own or with friends. He makes big battlefields between pirates and police. And uses all the details and a lot of fantasy.

My three year old is almost a bigger fan, but just like Ismene said he's very good at dismanteling but he is not able to put a driver in a car by himself.
But playing with it surely improves his motoric skills and he does it almost every day for hours. He is my biggest excuse for buying more...

My almost nine year old plays with it sometimes. He is a diorama builder. He does that on his own and hates it when someone messes up.
He still likes doing that, but he doesn't ask for more Playmobil anymore. When I let him choose he wants technical Lego.

Thanks for sharing the news Richard, its always great to see Geobra win recognition at the toy fair.

I too found it interesting the 3-5 aged category. I figured it was in the 6-10 but then as you can see who won that bracket (a computer toy) it is no wonder Geobra is setting its sights for the lower aged kids. Just like in adults, 30 is the new 40 and so on, I guess the kids have the same effect, 4 is the new 8 and so on.

Thanks again for sharing the winning video

Yeah, I thought it was strange that it was in the 3-5 category too. I tutor/babysit a six-year-old girl, and after we finish her homework we always play with playmobil. She loves it, but she still finds it rather difficult to manage at times. The small parts frustrate her, and she lacks the coordination to keep from knocking klickys over repeatedly, so I would think a preschooler would really have trouble. But I have noticed that in just a few weeks' time she's starting to improve. So I do think it is helping to develop her coordination. A child who started with playmobil younger would probably handle it fine by six years old. To me a child can't begin to fully appreciate playmobil until they are six or seven, though.

Awesome video of the new theme. I'm so excited about this theme!
