Christmas Wreath
« on: December 29, 2013, 22:04:27 »
The other week we had our Chistmas Party with BTCV and I'd arranged that in the afternoon I'd be happy to show anyone who was interested how to make Christmas Wreaths seeing as at the Botanical Gardens one of the guys makes some Christmas Wreaths and sells them onto some of their friends and family, so he always showed any of the staff and regualr volunteers who were interested how to make them and it sort of became a tradition that we'd set aside half a day or so to make Christmas Wreaths. As it so happened I collected several big bags full of green material and prepare dloads of stuff ready for making the wreaths but, after we'd done a morning thinning some young trees  we ended up just having a rather long lunch with everyone bringing some food to share and tryign to answer some questions from the QI book of General Ignorance but, me and one of my friends from Botanics made a wreath each when we got back to base and then passed the rest of the materials onto our boss who had said that they were very keen to have a go at making one, anyhow they gusy decided to take a look at the results when I'd hung it up

Very nice Christmas wreaths, Scott, and a very imaginative and original use of your Playmobil.

Do I see real knitted hats and scarves there, btw?

That climb seems pretty treacherous, I'm glad they are looking out for each other's welfare.  A perfect way to begin the New Year, Scott.  Thanks for the great pictures.

Thanks I did take some photos of ym little guys investigating last years wreath but, unfortunately I took the photos in our dark musty shed so they didn't look all that good if I'd had more tiem I would have liked to have taken some photos fo the watching/helping us to assemble the Wreaths but, by the time we'd got back and unpacked I was worried I wouldn't have enought ime to make a wreath before the palce got locked up.

As for the scarves and hats not quite knitted, the green scarves are from an old council jumper which had already been cut up so I used it for my first attempts at homemade Action Man  scarves and then later smaller Klicky scarves, ditto the blue scarves were from a bag of rags so I took some ncie ones to use for making scarves, the hats are from an odd glove of mine I found at Botanics so I tried cutting it off at different lengths and found this one was the best length if you turned the end up so I just did a little stitch to hold it in place,I found another odd glove today which probably came from the same pair at home so I've made some more which I think look a little better so now Dave has a nice warm hat for his bald head and I've got some fingerless gloves I don't mind getting mucky at work for no extra cost win win  ;D

Thanks I'm glad you liek the photos and the hat as I said above I think he needed the hat since he has got a bald head and none of my Playmobil hats seem to fit him very well (actually the ladys bonnet did look alright  :eh?: :eh?: but, I thought his friends might laugh at him  :-[) he seems much ahppier now that his head's nice and cosy and warm  ;)

Thanks it was rather windy as well otherwise I would have had the little fella with the hammer in a better position where he is looks a wee bit painful  :o fortunately my guys seem to like a good adventure I'd say they like a challenge as well but, that might be me more than them

Cool wreath! I like the knitted stuff too, especially the black hat. It looks very good. <*)

Thanks again I was planning to do a story about his search for a new hat seeing as I do the storeis Microsoft Word as well and print them off to show my friends and the guys at BTCV, just need to wait until a day when I can convince myself to go back out in the cold and take the initial photos not easy to motivate yourself with all the soggy weather we've been having lately.

Thanks very much glad you like them as I said above they're very easy to make particularly if you've got some old glvoes around that you don't mind cutting the fingers off or some old scraps of materials for the scarves  ;)
