Western Themed Section of My Zoo
« on: December 04, 2013, 16:38:52 »
So I know it's been quite a while since I posted any creative contributions. We have been in transition -- we finally have a room devoted just to our playmobil now, so I have room to work on projects again.

This is my latest project, a diorama of just one section of a zoo. When I did my last zoo diorama, I did not put as much energy into the North America section as the other sections. I was lacking inspiration at the time. But I had a new idea inspired by combining things I have seen at a few different zoos I have been to. I decided to create a little western town, with the buildings being the viewing areas to look out and see the animals. Of course, this takes up a lot of room to fully develop this idea, so in a diorama of my entire zoo it would have to be scaled back a bit. But I decided to set up just the North America section the way I imagined it and here it is.

An overview of the whole section

The view down Main Street from the entrance

Front view of the saloon, which is also a small drink bar, and the sheriff's office

View of the stage coach office and the livery stables

A closer view of the livery stables, home to bison, elk, moose, and white tail deer

A family taking pictures inside a real stage coach (They have this at the Fort Worth Zoo)

The sheriff's office

A picture of the saloon with custom signs

The eagle exhibit housed in a fort tower

Inside the saloon

Grizzly bear exhibit

Outdoor viewing of the grizzlies

The inside of the sheriff's office

Black Bear

Enrichment activity for the bears

Inside the stage office

Cougars

Hungry cougar

Enormous mountain for the cougars to climb

Back view of the bison exhibit

Another view

The school building is an education center for keeper chats

The animal being shown today is a skunk

The front of the general store

Barber shop and Tailor

And the bank and gold mine

Vultures housed in the water tower

Wolf Exhibit

Inside the general store

Howling to the moon

Taking a video of feeding time

Beavers, and a few ducks

Inside the barber shop, which I forgot to put furniture in 8}

Wild boars

Skunks, racoons, and foxes

Another view

Owl exhibit housed in the windmill

Another view

Petting zoo sign

An overview

Horses

A keeper keeping an eye on things

The goldmine, housing scorpions, snakes, and lizards

Scorpion exhibit

Rattlesnakes

Somebody's afraid of snakes

Lizards in the mine cart

And that's it. Hope you enjoyed it!

A great idea, Bonnie, and nicely executed.  I love the attention to detail, for example, the keeper's chats sign.

Wonderful Bonnie. Love the way you've integrated the structures. Some very clever ideas there, and a great way to combine themes together.

Wonderful setup with some very nice ideas. I like very much you have closed the windmill and the water tower and you have done them to look like cages. Very clever!! Excellent work Bonnie, congrats. Many thanks for sharing.

This is such a clever addition to your zoo.  There are so many neat ideas!  I love the netting you used to enclose the windmill, it looks just like chicken wire.

Thanks everyone! I had a lot of fun coming up with these ideas. It took me forever to set all this up though! The cages and the "glass" walls of the buildings were harder than I thought they would be. But in the end I loved how it turned out.

What an awesome idea you get two brilliant settups for the price of one, loving the scenery in all the animal enclosures looks like they've got some really good areas to live and play in, and some great settups as well with the all the visitors I really like it  :)
