Surveying
« on: October 05, 2013, 13:10:10 »
Hello folks last week we got a chance to practise doing some surveying at a site in Doncaster with a professional, it was great day really relaxed since we were just getting to learn morre about surveying instead of beign under pressure to complete a job, they taught us about loads about different wild plants and we got to have a go at identfying some as well. As usual mini Scott and the rest of the Carbon Army got to come along with us as well ...

At lunchtime they had a look at some of the apples we picked from one of the trees they're small (well ok that depends on your scale) but, they tasted good

After lunch we got to do some pond dipping which made me very happy  ;D and Scott decided to try out his boat in part of the ditch

Later he decided to take a look at what we'd found in the water

We actually found loads of intesting stuff tiny Sticklebacks, Pond Skaters, Water Boatmen, Pond Snails, Water Scorpions and even a Dragonfly nympy

Great photos, Scott.  Nice to see your little crew at work and enjoying themselves.

I take it Scott had to row because of the danger of fouling the propellor of his outboard with weed? A water scorpion would be a pretty terrifying beast to a klicky, let alone the dragonfly nymph!
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

Thanks I think it's a good mix of work and play for my little guys  ;) we sure had a good day nice and warm and very interesting what we were doing so I hope they enjoyed it as well  ;)

Didn't particularly think about that but, you're probably right I think his motor would probably have got choked up with weeds plus there's not much room in the boat for 1 to row and the other to steer with the motor and I think rowing looks better  ;) maybe next time we'll have a look how he looks manning the motor though. I'm sure you're probably right about all the creepy crawlies as well  :o although Scott says when they're all safely contained in a tray of water they look much less scary  ;D ;)

Those are great pics!

Thanks I took loads more photos but, since they're mainly of plants and the group I didn't want to put them on here however, I think there's some interesting ones amongst them so I've put them ina folder on the photoobucket and will post a link in case anyone's interested

Great pictures, did the clickies leave any apples for you or did they eat them all?  ???

And do your co workers get along well with the clickies?
