Guess what Ill be doing Christmas Eve?
« on: September 27, 2013, 19:35:52 »
LOL This just arrived in the mail today for my little man... and Im guessing Ill be spending all Christmas Eve putting it together  ;)

I would really love to make this castle more about the medieval lifestyle, rather then just the fighting and battles and knights (if this makes sense). I love the new bakery and museum and house that came out.

Can anyone suggest any older (or newer) sets that I can look up perhaps on Ebay etc, that have medieval style shops or people?

IM SO EXCITED! -I- actually cant wait until Christmas. I hope he LOVES It. :)

Cool buy! I would suggest the re-releases of the bakery and museum for houses and some Medieval parts. Also, the Knight's Market stall has some cool pieces. :)

Castle 3666! One of the few Playmo items I know the number of without having to look it up! My son spent many hours playing with his one, I'm sure your son will love it!

Leave yourself plenty of time on Christmas Eve to set it up!

My favorite set that I bought since getting back to playmobil, always wanted to have it as a child and its been prominently present in all of my stories.  :)

As for other medieval sets, I agree about the bakery, museum and whatever houses may be available in your region. In germany they have a blacksmith as well which will come to other countries sooner or later.

Adding to that I'd like to suggest getting farm animals, sheds and fences too, and maybe some trees.

Here's some of the stuff I got with my last DS order.

The stable and fence fit perfectly together, and the shepard with sheep works well in the medieval theme too.

I'd also suggest trying to get your hands on any of the forestmen sets of the 90's, they where released not long after the 3666 castle. They are hard to get though, all I have is a robber and a hunter. Still hoping to get all the other sets at some point.

Kiddo has been BEGGING for the dino sets and the castle sets for Christmas/Birthday (at the same time). So, Ive been wrestling with the thought of trying to get my hands on this castle, or just getting the Lions Castle. I couldnt make up my mind, the newer castle has all the really cool extra stuff, but this one is the best one of the bunch. Every time I went on Ebay to see if I could get my hands on it, the bids went well into the $250-300 range, and Im not paying that much for a Christmas present :P

Needless to say, on one lucky afternoon a couple days ago, this was on there, BUY IT NOW for 155! DING! Mine.

Ive never ordered stuff on DS. Do they do that for America? How does it work?

Thanks!

You will be very happy with this castle.  If you put it next to the newer ones, I think you would see the difference quite easily and you would be very happy you bought this instead.

Hmm, has anyone done a direct comparison with the 3666 to the 4865 on this site?

Anyway, you will like this and when you see the expandability potential it is something you can add to over time.  You do not need mint in package 7___ DS add ons, you can buy a bunch of extra pieces on ebay that someone is parting with and add them in.

However, do not worry about that now.  Your son will get TONNES of playvalue out of it just the way it is!

Does it come with figures too, by the way?

It was 100% complete, just without the box or original instructions (the ones in the pic are printed). So yep! It comes with a couple figures and a couple little animals. I was just thinking about asking relatives, grandma, grandpa, etc, to try and get him a couple other add ons or figures to go with it so was just looking for good suggestions other then the usual cannons and knights and other killing things. Though Im sure there will be multiple battles between dinos and castle folk :P lol

I'm all in for medieval sets other than just "fighting knights" (which might sound odd from someone who's served in Her Majesty's army, trained in martial arts/sport fighting for over 25 years, trains in Japanese sword arts (Kendo and Iaido), holds multiple black belts in Kendo and Tae Kwon Do, etc - but I strongly feel children do not need just violent toys and the olde style of Playmobil's boys toys were better than the modern with assault weapons for police, etc).

WoW! Thats quite the background lol.

Those houses are perfect. Exactly what Im looking for. Unfortunately, as people posted back in 2011, they arent very available. They arent even on American Ebay lol. My best bed will probably be to collect the new ones they are coming out with. I can at least start with the Bakery and Museum, and Market stand. That should take care of a couple little houses at least. Now for some people lol

Do not pay "collectors" prices when they are releasing them via Direct Service (Add Ons in the USA).

You can combine them in various ways to make new buildings and buy individual pieces from Playmobil USA.  There is a blacksmith shoppe to be released next year as well. It is different from the old one, but it's still unique.

You may not find them by looking for their stock numbers on ebay - except for collector's priced ones.  If you just do general searches for "medieval", "knights houses", "medieval buildings", "castle lot", etc you may find them - especially in lots of "castle pieces"
