Kirkbean 2013 - A Countryside Holiday Park
« on: August 30, 2013, 22:14:56 »
Another diorama that I had in mind for a long time was a holiday park.  When the new camping sets were revealed it made me determined to do this exhibit for Kirkbean.
Based on a park I had seen I wanted to have log cabins around a lake plus areas for caravans/camper vans and for camping.
I was lucky to have the boards that I had used last year for my zoo/safari park so they just needed a river adding to the lake and the road slightly altering.  Because I used the same colours it was easy to repaint.

I didn't draw out any plans, I just had an idea in my head and this is what I eventually came up with ...

unfortunately because of its position in the hall and the light from the large windows it was difficult to photograph as a whole ...

At the entrance to the park is an area with buildings, including the reception building where the visitors could check in and out ...

Closer views of the lake and cabins ...

The back view of the cabins

The cabins were primarily meant for  single use or for a couple and were simply furnished...

There were lots of activities on offer at the site

Cycling

Segway racing

Canoeing

Boating

Fishing

Butterfly catching!

Kite flying

and for those children who wanted something a little more lively to do or parents needing a bit of peace, there was a kid's club with a disco ... (James attached his ipod to this at various times, to add to the atmosphere!)

There were areas for Camper Vans and Caravans

and at the opposite part of the site an area for camping in amongst the trees, complete with a toilet block and laundry ..

For those not wanting to cook, the site had a cafe providing take away meals and snacks ...

and for those who needed provisions or gifts there was a well equipped shop ...

Although there were large areas for children to play there was a seperate children's play area ...

and besides the lake and river to paddle in there was also a swimming pool ...
(I filled this with water, which seemed to fascinate children, unfortunately the lady on the lilo was often found in the water!)

All in all, just the place for a relaxing weekend in the countryside!

Great scene!

The boards you used underneath were perfect. And so many different camper-vans!

I saw the waterpark in a display at a store recently and was surprised by how large it was in person.

Wonderful display Elaine! Love the gift shop. Did you get a second freezer from DS for that, or have I missed one somewhere?

Fantastic, Elaine, very nice layout for the park. I've been wanting to do a larger campground dio myself (did a small one a while back and never posted the pics. :-[). Now you've inspired me!

I really liked the Segway races.

They sell the bikinis in the camp shop especially for those who forget to bring one with them  ;)  ;D

There was a lady wearing a blue bikini which is held up by magic I think - the straps on the back are missing!  - she may be the lady in the corner pool.

Yes, the second freezer was from DS.  I was going to get some more ice cream too but that was out of stock.  I love the freezers, I think I'll get some more for my supermarket.

Glad to have inspired you Bonnie.  I'd like to see the pics of your campground.
I love the segways too, I took pics when I opened one so I'll try and do a review of it.

What I didn't say was that when I said that I wanted to do a campsite theme Playmobil UK very kindly sent me two sets as a gift - 5438 the tent with the motorbike and 5437 the service cart.
I managed to get the set with the reception, shower block and orange tent from someone in Germany for a good price.

Thanks for the guided tour, Elaine, which highlighted a number of details I'd missed when looking at it in real life.

Did you post a picture of the shower block?  I can see one with a tent on, but not the shower block.
